Monkey Magic

Time to devote a thread to one of my all time favorite shows. :D

Born on from an egg on a mountaintop, this man/animal is/was a legend. I have most episodes on tape from when ABC replayed them a few years back - however, they're in a shambles and need sorting out in order one rainy weekend

To spark things off here's some of my favorites

One of my favorite scenes would have to be in the first or second show of the first series, when Monkey was in heaven and was told to travel to the gates at the end of the universe. So Monkey in his arrogant ways set off thinking how easy a mission that was, reaches what he thinks is the end, enscribes his name and I think an abusive message into the "gates" and urinates on them. Only to find out seconds later that this was in fact not the end of the universe but actually the god/budda (whatever she was) fingers.

Favorite term from the show "**** orrrrrffffffffffff" (yes I use it all the time)

Loved Pigsy and his "womanising", did anyone else notice that they seemed to use the same "extras" in every show?

I can remember reading about how small the budget was for the show - and they would use childrens crayons for the makeup of the demons and other nasties which they encountered.

Anyway - who else was/is a fan????

I used to love watching Monkey Magic when we were living in Mildura. My two older brothers and myself would sit and watch the show whilst eating icypoles.

I couldn't stand PIIIIGGGSSSY. Monkey was always my favorite and when he did his little cloud trick I was in raptures.

Monkey had the best side burns going around and was one funky cat.

I loved the prelude when they showed the egg rolling to a mountain and out popped little Monkey Magic.

One day I live in the hope of sideburns like Monkey's and Figjam, forget Hoovercrafts, your new idea is to create clouds you can call on and fly away.
 
I loved the Red Demon, Blue Demon, Yellow Demon episode.

My favourite all time moment however was when Monkey was knocking on the door of a demon's cave screaming "Let me in you ****ter!".

Polically incorrect I know but pretty funny on a religious kid's show nonetheless.
 
Great show. I used to like it when they were walking along and Monkey would start arguing with Pigsy and Sandy and he'd usually end up bashing them with his stick. The only thing that annoyed me about the show was that Triputaka was supposed to be a boy when the actor playing him was a chick.

I reckon Monkey's cloud got me hooked on the whole idea of individual flying units!

Remember Tripitaca's mantra that she used to control Monkey's behavior, by tightening his head-band? Well, I wish I had one of them to use on James Hird's headgear!! :D

"She" was the worst character in the show. I hated how she used to boss Monkey around and he always got in trouble for going against what she said.

Sandy was also deadwood.

I loved Pigsie's cloud... I dunno why, but a cloud with handlebars was a real trip :D

I LOVED Tripitaka :D

Towards the end - late 2nd to 3rd series - there was definately a strange attraction noticable b/n Monkey and Tripitaka.
 
Monkey Magic was one of the best shows ever to grace our screens.

How many children in the schoolyard used to blow across the top of two fingers in the attempt to call their own private cloud?

one of my nicknames for my wife is "Monster"...
it came from Monkey and the way he would say it whenever he came across one.
 
Was there ever a last episode where they actually got to India and delivered the scrolls to Buddha? If so i don't remember it or just didn't see it.
 
No - the final episode was where Tripitaka's mother is dying, and Monkey flies back on his cloud (of course!) to be with her. Tripitaka's mother dies, leaving Monkey with the role of making sure that the scriptures must be delivered - and that was the end of it.

There was an episode where they thought they had made it to India. In reality it was a mock-up put on by the queen of hell (!) and assorted other nasties who were hoping to send the pilgrims back to China with fake scriptures. After the plot was discovered - and the demons beaten to a pulp by Monkey et al - the Buddha allowed the pilgrims to see how far they had actually gotten. They weren't even half way! :(

Guess what video I'll be getting out tonight :D
