Web browsing histories are being given to Australian police under data retention powers.

Law enforcement agencies are being provided with the web browsing histories of people under investigation using mandatory data retention powers, despite the federal government specifically excluding that practice in the legislation, the commonwealth ombudsman has warned.

Australia should be worried about recent trends but sadly our electorate demand the dilution of controls protecting us from our governments.

We have the militarisation of our police
We have big brother on the internet
and we have had the electorate, post bush fires, demand the controls and safeguards protecting us from our military be removed

If you are worried about the authorities accessing your web history you should invest in a VPN.

I would be more concerned about the accesses on your mobile phone. Modern smartphones are always on, despite the off switch, with the camera and microphone enabled.

People would be surprised to know what most businesses are able to do with a wifi router these days

You don't even have to connect to a shopping centres wifi and they can detect where someone is based off the signals their phone is pinging as they walk around
