Just on that quote in the Herald Sun saying Morton is looking for a 3rd club. I for one hope this is speculation. In my eyes, Morton and Connors are two players that are relatively unique to our list. They may lack the intensity of a White or a Nahas, but they have a certain amount of X-Factor that can't be taught and I don't think it is prevalent anywhere in our list.

I'm pretty much resigned to losing Connors, but that makes it all the more important to hold onto Mitch. Look it this, it was only 1 year ago that he almost won us the game against Port.

Morton has weaknesses, mainly in defensive pressure, but he's just such a good finisher and always gets into the right positions. Even this year in the back end of the season, he didn't set the world on fire but he never makes a horrible mistake, and that's not something you can say about the bulk of our list. Exactly the type we need in our midfield rotations. All he needs is for Hardwick to back him in like he did with his mates Nahas and King, and give him that high half forward/wing role to make the most of. With Connors likely gone, we need to hold onto our only enigmatic forward, primarily because he's the only player of his type at our club.

Hopefully next year, with Dimma's full support, we'll see more of this -

wow, miss richo man, brought a tear to my eye :(

morton is a good player, his a bit slack in my eyes. he needs to push harder to earn his spot.

Richmond forward Mitch Morton is looking for his third club while there is a lot of interest in Geelong defender Tom Gillies.
Herald sun .

:( thought he would come good next year

Tom Gillies is on our radar now

But do you see that Morton is a unique player on our list? You can have plenty of Kings, Nahas, Whites and Farmers etc, which is what Dimma seems to be about, but you need some cream in there too to compliment it. Outside of Connors and Morton, we have none that can play in the forward half.

Agree with you Ize, Morton is definitely one of the most talented players at the club, he just needs to get his confidence back and feel like he has the support of the coaches.

The guy could be our own Andrew Walker, would be a very dangerous small-mid forward (it wasn't long ago he kick something like 45+ goals for us) When on a tight angle or a snap across the body situation, Morton is the player I'd be most confident to score consistently with the ball in his hands.

Given that it's unlikely he would find a third club or we would get much back in return, I think it would be best if we kept Mitch and support him to overcome his deficiencies. In a good team, he could easily be a krakouer type player for us.

As far as I know, he hasn't spoken about wanting to leave so its all speculation from the HS.

I'd be happy to offload both Connors and Morton.
Neither work hard enough defensively even after being told that is what they needed to do to improve.
This. Talented but lazy the two of them. Can have all the x-factor in the world but if you dont do the team things you are useless.

Got no problem offloading Connors.

I would want Morton to stick around. Looked like an A grader at the back end of last season. Willing to put this season down to the personal issues he had but next season should be his last chance.

Yeah Morton has had confounding issues this year. Considering he missed a big chunk in the middle of the year he actually went okay. But there are two points for mine, one is that we need some x-factor on our list somewhere among the defensive types, and I don't think that Morton's lack of defensive pressure should outweigh everything else he offers. Secondly, what we could get for him now would be nothing close to his value when at his best. Look at those clips, if he could do that regularly he'd be worth a bucket. It'd be the definition of selling low.

Ripper. :thumbsu: Hope we're chasing the Gillies. Has the attributes to be a rock.

Would be happy for Morton to be a piece in the trade puzzle if he has currency remaining but wouldnt be adverse to him staying.

We should look to offload Connors now however. His spot is redundant.

both are potentially very good players. morton in particular has stevie j qualities, he's a forward. the wing experiment didnt work too well, despite good signs early (see port game) and i think connors up forward is his ideal spot too..
jake king turned his game moving forward as less pressure was placed upon his kicking, the same goes for connors imo - could be the hff who creates something from nothing.
both could be good footballers for the rfc

Wouldn't be sorry to see him go, he's a very lazy player and I hate lazy footballers...there's no free rides in life, work hard and you'll be rewarded.

Re: Mitch Morton - 2 goals in 2 Minutes...
(AKA Jake Kind 2 goals assists in 2 minutes)

Check out the celebrations at 2.27

You've gotta love it when a fan celebrates a goal by holding their child in the air.

Classic!!!

yeah, I miss the guy as well. watching him holding the mike doesn't even come close.

just imagine him up at FF with Jack roaming around the 50 at CHF, with King, Martin and Morton hovering around for the crumbs... goose bumps!

Meanwhile, back in the present...

Ize makes a good point. Morton has some special skills, and those who can remember the last six games of 2010 will know that he has plenty of upside as an outside mid. I would definitely keep him if his heart is still in it.

I can remember waiting for him to explode on a wing in 2011 given his form in those games. Just looked like he was ready to come good.

Which makes his continual stalling even more disappointing. I can understand if he wants to move on and would be happy to trade for the right price but I will be glad if he has one more year to see if he can produce.

Seems that some personal issues emerged that were responsible for the stall. If those have been sorted he may yet produce the goods. It would be aggravating to see him build on his demonstrated ability somewhere else.

Morton is a valuable player to me but Connors i wanna keep him but i dont think he has a spot anymore as a HBF unless he can be tried in a different role. We dont need him at HBF with players like Batchloer, Houli, Newman, Morris (I hope) than i hope that makes Deledio a Midfielder so maybe trade Connors but keep Morton Wing/HFF role.

Ize, I respect that you feel the way you do about Morton, and I have not read much of the response.

I got stuck in your OP where you were talking about him hardly ever making a mistake.

Please cast your mind back 2 years and tell me about Morton never making mistakes. He single handedly lost at least 3 games for us off his own boot.

IMO he is selfish and incapable of being a team player, and that is why he is now looking for his third club at the age of about 24. And I reckon if the club wanted him, then he would want to stay.

With regard to Connors, I like him and would be dissapointed to lose him but in reality as tigerfan 12 stated, he is probably about 6th in line now, so I understand if he does want to go. Deledio into the midfield and rotating to the forward pocket osunds good to me.
