there are probably 4-5 players on our list i would be disappointed to lose
the others, as long as the compensation is right, we can work around losing. Lots of plodders on that list - Morton is not that different to Pettifer in reality - had moments that showed his potential and can be a barometer on his day - can do things that get you out of your chair.... and sometimes you can forget he is on the list for an entire month
 
Everyone wants Morts to play forward but he went back to the 2's to earn a spot in the midfield. The bloke doesn't know what's good for him and I'm not sure there is a spot in the side going into 2012. I'd prefer to keep him on the list because of the talent but if he wants to move fair enough.

Pretty much sums up how I feel as well.
All I know is I watched him very closely against Adelaide this year and I was shocked and disappointed at how little he worked to get himself into the game. If he hasn't learnt it by now, well...

In fairness Tugg the guy had a bit going on this season , just hope he can recover get himself fit and in a good place because he has the ability to be Stevie J like .
 
wont say it very well so i probably shouldnt.

when we drafted him i didnt want him. attitude. heart, accountability and toughness were non existant. i dont think much has changed in that time.no doubt he has talent but for me he was always going to be high risk and high maitenance i still believe when he first started roles across hb was the way to go.it certainly would have helped.

+1 for me but.........this is the issue. Heart or lack thereof. Pettifer Mark II. I would rather the club cut our losses and trade him out.
 
"Heart" is the key issue - but not in the courage sense. By heart I mean whether Morton 'buys' into the game plan and team ethic. I doubt he would ever be a fearless pack crasher, but what's needed from him is the willingness to make the effort and wear the bruises when he has to. If he can do that his special talent makes him a keeper for mine.

As for the Pettifer Mk 2 reference, I have to disagree. Whilst both medium forwards, their styles and abilities were vastly different. Pettifer was a mark and kick player with a lack of pace and only average ability to read play. While is a useful mark, Morton is extremely dangerous at ground level (despite having only average pace) and a very good reader of play. A much more useful package - potentially.

All the points above are valid IMO:

- he is a very highly skilled player...more so than most on our list
- he is incapable of being a team player. At no point in time have I ever seen him show any real team attributes. I detest players like him as it's always about him and not about the team.

If he can change his mindset and play as a member of a team then he could become our wildcard for next year. Absolutely no doubt whatsoever in my mind that he can be a gun. At the same time, I am very sceptical that he has it in him to be able to change his mindset and change the way he plays.

Like I said, I detest players like him and have little to no time for him. Happy to be proven wrong.
 
:)As someone who has three signed Mitch Morton jumpers hanging in my house, I hope he stays a little while longer!!
On-song, he's among our best. But has some real poor efforts. I think they'll persisit at least one more year!
 
He's got everything except the most important ingredient...a burning desire to succeed. Would love to see him turn it around but unless you give consideration for personal issues, he has had plenty of time to get the message.
My heart says give him another go and drive him to get it right. Head says it's too hard and we can't slow the bus and hope those like him jump on. Cut.
 
If our interest in Walters from Freo is real, then clearly Mitch has little scope at Punt Road

Hoping a swap of him for Nicholls. Would make sense for GC too. They really suck up fwd

Not necessarily. It was in either the st.kilda or collingwood game (memory fuzzy) where he took that screamer at around the 50 line and boundary ... could have easily been selfish and tried a low percentage shot on goal but instead he spotted up cotch 20 metres out on a slight angle (who unfortunately missed :p)

Whilst I do believe he can be prone to wanting to be a one man show I don't think he's as bad as some posters on here make him out to be.

I am pretty sure one of yhe reasons (or the actuall reason) for Morton wanting to go, or been told to go is his partner; I believe he split with his lady & it has effected him dramatically. So now he either wants to flee the state to get away, or he is trying to follow her;:confused:
 
My understanding is that is what went down mid year, but now they're back on track.
 
This guy is in our top 5 players talent wise so I would be dissapointed to see him go. I think he should be given another year as a forward or outside mid and just played in 22 games.

Pettifer of years ago is the Morton of today :o
 
unless we get a good pick for him, which we wont because he has been in and out of the team, i hope we keep hold of him. im just surprised more teams arent interested, he clearly has the talent, and its not as if his attitude problems are at an unmanageable level.

Morton is a player with that magical X Factor which has gone largely untapped for various reasons.
His abilities are very Stevie J like.
Just hasn't done it consistantly enough to date.
If we trade him I can see him going to a successful club and tearing it up on the forward flank with a lot of Richmond supporters and even more opposition supporters saying how the hell did we let him go, another Tigers stuff up.
As we get better and more consistant if he gets his head right he could be awesome for us on the flank.
 
Sorry I'm a little out of the loop- why is the OP resigned to the fact that Connors is leaving, I haven't seen anything about Connors.

I hope we keep Morton and Connors.

I don't think Connors has been a big underachiever, he has shown a fair bit and really seems only to have been let down by an off-field incident and injuries. He is still young, give him at least one more year he has talent.

Morton has underachieved but I don't think we would get anything decent for him and as mentioned above he is not exactly the type of player who is in high supply so if it does suddenly click for him it will be worth it.
