Just found the playlist MOS Annual 2011 which is out on Oct 29.

WTF. This use to be great, they have seriously dropped the ball over the past 2-3 years with the Annual. Been sampling the songs on Youtube and Disc 1 is pure and utter shit.

Yeah, it's utter shite by the looks of it. Disappointing because I thought 2010 was pretty good for an Annual. Thank goodness they got rid of John Course, he was always dragging it down, but by the looks of it it won't have much effect. The Ministry generally release one good compilation a year, but given the Annual was released in 2009, they haven't got anything right this year.

If you want a good new compo, try Toolroom Knights - Mark Knight 3.0. Toolroom & Global Underground are the way to go lately :thumbsu:

Just D/L the songs from the UK 2011 Annual, disc 1 is awesome IMO.

In 2010 they released one for the US and one for the UK.

We get the US release but the 2010 UK release was much better.
We get our own, mixed by Australian DJs - nothing to do with the US. Honestly, the US one is like two discs of 10 tracks each and all are old as anything. The UK one is pretty bad too - 15 month old songs like Riverside, I Think I Like It, Afronuts, Grr, Babylon, aNYway, I'm In The House (all on compilations in 2009 - some on our Annual). As average as ours looks this year, the UK Annuals are extremely overrated.

Did we get our own Annual for 2010?

Was it the one mixed by Goodwill, John Course and The Aston Shuffle?

Yes. Course is from Melbourne, TAS are Canberra and Goodwill is Sydney. They mixed 08 and 09 too, and Course did 07 with Mark Dynamix.

Came out Friday, anyone got it yet? I might get it next weekend

I was lucky enough to be able to rip a friend's CD copy this time. After I bought last year's given that it was 3 CDs and looked pretty decent, and I wasn't disappointed with the last two discs at least. On a quick listenthrough, the first disc is, as usual, the weakest - very commercial, full of tracks that are shit and/or really old. At least John Course was fresh in his approach - even though you'd only like 5 out of the 20 tracks, they were often a remarkable guide to what was going to be popular in commercial circles over the next few months.

The mix ins are also a bit underwhelming - very brief and not particularly skilled either - so nothing different to Course's discs in the past, but much worse than Goodwill & The Aston Shuffle's very well mixed discs 2 & 3 last year.

The second disc, after an average start starts to get better. Of the first 12 tracks, only three were new for me - and quite a few (ADD SUV, Bum Song, Americano) had been on previous MOS mixes which just annoyed me even further. But later on there really are some gems - the Bart B More remix of Miike Snow's Black & Blue, while not new, is pretty decent. Magik Johnson's remix of Young Blood is quite good, as are Tommy Trash's of Shake It, KNAS & Angello's edit of Babylon (although this one has been on a few mixes this year already) and Boys Noize's remix of Swoon is nice as well.

No idea how Kiss My Trance, which is 3 years old (will be 4 in 2011), made it on, even if it is a great track.

The thing about these Annuals is that they often sink in after a while, but I just can't see it happening this time. Dumping Coursey wasn't a bad move but Hook N Sling has gotten too commercial lately and Tommy Trash's disc, whilst a bit better, is full of those tracks most people who follow the scene would be well and truly sick of already. Losing Goodwill was a mistake - he really shines in the last disc where he's able to put in a few underground and little-known hits, and The Aston Shuffle handled disc 2 really well last year. All in all, the formula worked. This one doesn't.

Unfortunately, at an early glance, it seems to be the worst Aussie Annual thus far. It's only worth your money if you like NOW and So Fresh.

I bought it before, listening to it now and not too bad so far

I downloaded. Songs are good but the mixes make me sad.
