There would be a few for me this year. 1 would be the game being released on PS2 called Mafia, it has been on the PC for donkeys years now but i believe the PS2 version is gonna be a hell of alot different.
My 2nd most anticipated game for this year would be AFL2005 simply because i just wanna see if Acclaim will listen to fans and fix the game right up, a dream i know but miracles do occur.
My 3rd most anticipated game would have to be the new J.Lomu game being relsead next month or March i think, i cant wait for that baby.

What are the games you cant wait to get your hand on???

cheers

I'm pretty sure its just out on PS2 when its first released.

And Vice City was #4 - it just didn't have the 4 in the title.

yeah a hell of a lot worse looking.
a hell of a lot longer load times too.
I'd get it on PC, its dirt cheap. Then i'd get it on xbox. lastly i'd get it on ps2. it will be the inferior version.

Halo 2 is my most anticipated game.

Fable, Halo 2 and Doom 3 all should be out this year and they are all looking good. I'm not going to hold my breath for an Xbox version of Doom 3 this year though.
Any WWII flight sims on the way that are better than Secret Weapons Over Normandy will have me in the wait as well.

Lower your expectations while you can.

Me? I'm still waiting for Team Fortress 2, Duke Nukem Forever, and Speedball Arena. Actually, I genuinely am waiting for SA...and Half-Life 2. The others I just like mentioning for the laughs they get.

it is still getting decent reviews (90-94%)but nothing was going to beat the original.apparently its a short game as well.10-15 hours worth, but has 6 or so different endings. The HUD display is causing a bit of grief as well apparently.

im still keen on it,but i know where you are coming from.let the conspircy theories begin:cool:

I have it. I have played it thoroughly through. It's not even close to the original on many levels, although it's not a total disaster either. Gamerankings has it averaging 82%, which is about where it belongs. And that's only after the 1.1 patch, which corrected some serious problems in the PC 1.0 release. In many ways, it is an excellent thing that only the US release was rushed - if Ion Storm can get v1.2 or better out the door in time, the European/Aus release will benefit greatly.

what exactly do you find flaws with it?Is it worth my hard-earned $99 or do I wait for half-life 2?

cheers

$99? I would have to say no.

In short...

- the graphics are much better than DX, but they are not well optimised even with the 1.1 patch and like Halo, the gfx performance on anything but a beast of a rig is disappointing. Which is a shame because it really is one of the first games to utilise dynamic lighting to its full extent.
- the alterations to game mechanics are, by and large, to its detriment. Skills and skill points are gone entirely; the mod system has been redone in such a way that there are very few genuine choices to be made about what sort of character you're developing; and the increased diversity of weapon modifications really doesn't compensate for what the other two systems used to offer.
- most of your weapons feel like pop-guns, there's no decent melee/stealth weapon (your riot prod looks like a popsicle), and the unified ammunition system is crap for several reasons. Primarily that you can't actually tell how many shots you have left in any given weapon!
- the inventory system is very restrictive and not particularly user friendly (this, like many other elements of the game, reeks of "we did this to suit the XBox, bugger the PC users"). Ditto the system of accessing goals, notes and images. Conversation logs are also gone completely.
- although there are nominally two allegiances your character can have for most of the game, they often involve completing exactly the same missions, and even when you ignore one side totally they will keep asking you to work for them.
- the plot is a confused and unimpressive extension of the DX universe. It's almost as if they worked out how the game would go and THEN tried to tie it in to DX. And did so badly.

Now having said all that, the game is still fun per se because there is stuff to explore, different side missions to choose, etc etc. But when you are aware of all the good stuff that has been left out from DX, it leaves you yearning for a lot more once you've played it through. Replayability isn't as good as DX either - different factions don't make a heck of a lot of difference in the end, although there are four endings to work through. The ability to change the gender of your character only seems to alter the speech of a few NPCs, nothing else. The skill system gave much greater 'freedom', whatever Ion Storm may try to sell us...
