anyone that dwells on the 99 prelim again is like a dog that goes back to its own vomit. Can we move on and as long as he(murphy) is wearing the red&black and having a red hot go i will be cheering him on.

FORTUNE FAVORES THE BRAVE!

WELL DONE BOMBERS!

'99 was our own fault. It was kicked away. 0.5 in second quarter. 14.19 on a day when 15.18 was enough to win. Caracella blew it, Mercuri blew it, Wallis blew it, Somerville blew it, Alessio blew it. That was a team loss.

The sooner we move on from '99, the better. It will always be known as the one that got away, but we are coming up on five years since it happened now.

The fact that we still have a real problem beating Carlton, even when they are languishing on the bottom of the ladder, makes me believe that there is obviously some kind of mental block.

We are so scared of losing to them that we play in a shell. We play with absolutely no confidence at all against them.

Carlton is in our head. That game is in our head. It was great that we were able to channel it into a premiership, but it is obvious that there's some kind of voodoo still going on whenever we play Carlton.

Sheedy needs to stop making stupid references to it and worry about beating them straight up, without using it as motivation every time. Beat Carlton because they happen to be the next opponent on the fixture and because our top 4 chances depend on it. Don't beat them just for grudge purposes.

I thought our first half in round 17 I think it was this year against them was particularly bad...when we had no reason to be, with a vastly superior 22 one the ground. I was on the verge of pulling my hair our strand by strand until Hirdy turned on the magic in the third quarter...

I don't agree.

We are 6-3 against Carlton since '99 with all three losses being narrow. Just because we don't thrash time every single time doesn't mean they are in our head. Five of the 6 wins have been easy, convincing wins - only this years lacklusre round 18 effort (which was still easy) wasn't a top notch performance by Essendon.

Seriously, would you rather be 6-3 or would you rather be in Carlton's shoes at 3-6 against a hated rival?

In all nine of those games, we have been prohibitive favourites.

While 6-3 isn't exactly terrible, those three losses were all
particularly embarrassing to the club. In Round 3, 2001 they beat us with half their side missing. Round 3 this year may have cost us a top 4 spot.

agree totally with Stelth. although Round 3 was terrible i find it forgivable as we are a shocking wet weather team and they are a bunch of scragers who thrive when nobody can pick up the f**king ball (predudice) Despite this it must be said that Liuke Essendon Collingwood its one of those games where form isnt really important. eg Anzac day this year im sorry to say i didnt really give us a chance...................................................... :)D)

I'm sorry but I just don't gey why ppl always say Wallis blew it?!

The guy knew the clock was down and he gave it one last roll of the dice and it didn't work. Others like Mercs blew it when they had easy shots and didn't convert. Let's get away from this Wallis thing.

Carlton's gameplan has troubled us in recent years - that's why we generally "struggle" against them win or lose. They generally try and "strangle" our own game plan and has worked well for them.

1999 is well, well in the past now - we've all well and truly moved on, both Carlton & Essendon supporters.

Just on that game, the third quarter was some of the best football I have ever seen played by any club, simply breath taking. Yes, we kicked far too many points, but some of the stuff played !!!!! Champagne Football. Have never watched the replay so I`m going on memory here, but Rioli was superb for that 30 minutes.

Let's get away from this Wallis thing.

Well, I didn't solely blame Wallis. Wallis' failure at the end was only after a string of equally significant failures by other players.

Wallis seems to be the scapegoat for that whole game, just because of the timing of his miscue.

It was a team loss.
