Curious to hear the view of Freo fans on the Viney judgement. FWIW I think Fyfe was hard done by, probably should have been reported but not suspended. Although I don't know what was happening in the game at that time only what i saw in the replay clips
The Fyfe one was bullshit but this is up another level to beyond ridiculous. It's like they are setting out to destroy the game as we know it.

My avatar is more relevant than ever.

I think the "medium" impact is an awkward attempt to contain the situation after the outburst with Fyfe's decision.
Both Fyfe and Viney should not be rubbed out at all, IMO.
I anticipated it, but I am pleased that the tribunal is "consistent" with their stance.

Correct implementation of the bump rule.
Crap rule.

It's genuinely scary that decisions like this are so commonplace these days, it's hard not to get the impression that they want to completely erase physicality from the game.
They're lawyers shitting themselves over CTE.

The bump shouldn't be rough conduct, it should be something else. Rough conduct penalties are too harsh. Tonight they either had to let him off completely or suspend him as per what the book says.

What they did instead was farcical. Found him guilty and then fudged the other parameters to reduce the penalty. FFS - a broken jaw is only graded as medium? If any of our blokes get charged with high or severe impact we should challenge it on the basis of precedent. Any injury less than broken bones can't be classified as high or severe impact now.

Jack has it right. Was an accident like Fyfe. 2 weeks.

OK, Viney can be considered bloody unlucky. But shit it's funny watching AFL360 and it basically dominates the show. When Fyfe got rubbed out it came in as the 4th story of the night, they spend about 2 minutes saying how it's a bit rough then they moved onto something else.

So excuse me if i'm not crying in my ice cream in devastation.

They're all hard done by, but Fyfe is still the worst
For mine, hunt's was just as bad. Fyfe had the extra week due to carry over points from the MRP's sh!tful kicking decision last year.

Same penalty though, if carry over is ignored.

This might be a stupid question but if the AFL are trying to reduce concussions, why don't they make it mandatory for all players to wear light weight protective helmets which still permits players to bump.

Because helmets become battering rams and can create other issues with unprotected parts of the body. Oh, and helmets don't stop concussions either.

That's it helmets don't afford the necessary protection.
Can still be concussed while wearing one etc etc.Concussion victims from several codes including AFL have worn them in the belief that they were protected from further trauma only to discover it was not the case.As our resident tulip muncher has said all the codes are packing their dacks over future liability.
There has been a lot of international sports research which I think rugby union has been at the forefront of;not too sure about the current state of play.

Helmets don't stop the brain rattling around in the skull, and they can create a false sense of protection, as well as being used as a weapon (see NFL for an extreme example).

Think they would cause more problems than they solve.

It's debatable whether helmets have any impact on reducing concussions or concussion severity. They might even place players at a higher risk due to a false sense of security.

Edit*(What Quinz said)

An easier solution is for Fraser and his band of dickheads to realise that accidents happen in a contact sport.

What a snotbag decision again. So another non-sniper is rubbed out for accidental head contact. They can paint this any way they like but this law is a lemon and heck all thought has gone into it before it's implementation. Dikhead rules committee just need to leave our game alone.

If you want helmets to stop concussion then you need to go NFL style and not those stupid things the AFL players wear. Although there is some conjecture about whether they do stop concussions or not.
