Probably because it's still classified as working hours for though who work late shifts and whatnot.

Friday night is the weekend, Sunday night is not.

That's the way it's always been in terms of what nights you can do what you like without the worry of what you're doing the next day.

Officially yes the weekend is just 2 days but that's not the way it works in terms of how people spend their time.

Weekends most certainly do start whenever you knock off Friday night. The neighbours are having a riot every Friday and Saturday... not Sunday.

What about unemployed? They pretty much always have a weekend, except without the income to actually do anything of course.
