Not according to the Herald Sun this year. IIRC they reported that Melbourne are in the top 5 clubs paying the most of their salary cap! God knows who they are over paying!

I'm guessing the club is waiting to see what trades can be done before signing him, thus ensuring the structure of his contract (front/back ended) most suits the club in the present and future.
