Personally, I like it.

Murphy did not want to play for us, so cut our losses.

Bizzell has not delivered, so trade him while he's still worth something.

So we have about 6 picks in the top 40......

cheers

Half good half bad

Murphy is a gun, but they must have plans to get some midfielders and Forwards. At least mr.attitude and identity crisis has gone the next Ablett indeed:rolleyes:

It's a bit disappointing not to get more for Murphy. Last year we gave up draft pick #11 for him and we've given him back for #23. Sure he wanted to go, but we've lost out on a quality midfielder and whoever we pick up will take time to be a useful player, if at all.

Apparently we were close to getting Joe Misiti in a deal involving Murphy, but that's little consolation now that the trade period has ended.

I'm happy with the Bizzell deal. As hard as it is to lose a player of his calibre, he has been given every opportunity to be a consistent performer and to get two draft picks out of him isn't a bad result.

Brent Grgic is a bit of an enigma. A few years ago he looked like being a good player, but hasn't really taken the next step. He started out as a forward, but Melbourne has been forced to play him down back for lack of tall defenders. Maybe the Demons playing him out of position is the reason for his poor form. Who knows? Only time will tell.

But what now for Adam Houlihan and Jason Mooney?? I'm hopeful Houla will stay because he's a class forward when he's on song, but he needs to work hard over the summer. Plus now that we haven't traded him, he's too good a player just to let go into the draft and get nothing for him.

J Mooney may well be delisted, he was put on the table at trade time, but it looks as though no one was interested. But it all depends how much we need to trim our list. You'd think there'd be other players to cut before Mooney. Actually, trimming our list won't be too hard this year. There's so much dead-wood there, it'll just be a matter of who deserves another crack at it and who is just a waste of space.

It looks like Geelong has gone with the youth policy and I'm happy with that. We'll need to keep turning players over to build a quality list. Patience may be required.

I'm pleased with the deal.

I was a fan of Murphy's, but if his heart wasn't in it, then what's the point of keeping him?
As for Bizzell, I was sick of waiting for him to perform, he had to go.

To pick up an untapped player in Grgic is a good move, a move back down to his home town and to play for the club he barracked for as a kid could turn him right around.

This is probably the most stupidest idea but hell we havent won a flag since 1963

I cannot believe my fingers are leading me astray but I think we should keep Jason Mooney for 1 more year, there I said it him and his bro could be the enforcers on the half forward and half backlines.

just remember there is one spot up for grabs Mooney, J or no31:eek:

Nolsey, there is no choice. Who'd have Mensch?

But I can't see Jason staying. They said if they couldn't get a trade then he'd be delisted. Most unlikely he'll stay. :(

I have a bad feeling about Bizzell.

Melbourne are going to play him in the backline and he'll have a blinder next year. The Demons don't need any more forwards. They've got Neitz, Schwarz, Robertson, Green, Bruce, plus Vardy from Adelaide, it's defenders they need.

That's where Bizz played some of his best footy late in '98 and '99. That what we should have done once he wasn't getting the job done up forward, put him down back so his opponent can lead him to the ball.

I realise this is utterly pointless as the deal is done and nothing can be done about it, I just hope whoever we pick up in the draft go on to be good players.

But let's be positive, it could be a win-win situation for us and our arch-rivals, Melbourne, and that's all you can hope for out of a trade. I'm sure Grgic will pick it up in a new environment, with a different role on-field. But the deciding factor will be what we get with our draft picks - it's always a gamble, but the young crop's supposed to be good this year.

Good luck Bizz, you'll do well.

The Monster #31 is safe, the veteran's list will save him. Great news for Geelong fans who will get to watch him grace the turf for another 3-4 years.

I reckon trading Bizzell was a good move. He seemed to be needing a new scene to thrive in. However, I wouldn't have gone for B.Grgic. I can't see much in him at all. Then again, who knows if he can be turned around?

Personally, I would have traded off B.Sholl, to a club looking for another player capable of midfield duties, in exchange for a few draft picks, or a younger, capable player. I reckon you guys could have tried to broker some sort of deal there. Sholl has had his time at Geelong, I reckon.

I reckon guys like Houlihan, Sholl, and Bizzell have that talent, but were/are not going to take the club to the next level. Houlihan and Bizzell have been treading water, while Sholl is on the end of his career, and his motivation seems to have dipped considerably. This is understandable, as players coming towards the end of their careers probably aren't too happy about playing in sides which are falling outside of the 8 come the end of the season.

As for Murphy, although he can play football, I reckon Geelong are better off without him. He's a whinging troublemaker, IMO.
