But it's not your everyday V/Bus type of thing where you hop on a bus at Southern Cross and go straight towards Geelong, it is only a "part" replacement. You will be required to catch a train from Southern Cross to Wyndham Vale, where you will then be required to change to a "coach" towards Geelong (apparently V/Line employees are not allowed to use the word bus). The stupidity of this is that the only way a bus can get from Wyndham Vale station to the Geelong Freeway, they have to go backwards towards Werribee before they can then head towards the freeway.
I think V/Line tried to do this sought of thing a couple of years ago. The day before the game V/Line suddenly decided they could get a couple of trains through the works so they could get people to the footy.
Maybe V/Line might need a few emails to encourage them to do the same thing. I hope some sanity can prevail.
Good luck to supporters travelling from Melbourne.

Not sure this requires it's own dedicated thread

These works also aren't new - as it says on the planned service changes page, this is part of their annual maintenance, and for the Geelong line that occurs during this March/April period... So surely people aren't surprised when this happens

As for the bus/coach part of the release, coach is the correct choice of word as that's the type of vehicle they use during rail line replacements:
  • bus, is used to refer to a transit bus or what you'd catch around town
  • coach, is a type of bus, it can be seen as a more luxurious option and it's also used for longer travel, such as in this situation

So yeah, happy for them to use the term coach

Email them all you want, but unless they get an agreement with Metro to go via Werribee (and that ain't necessarily a quicker option than the coach), it's going to be hard for them to run trains - they aren't going to start running trains via the closed Vline tracks during the middle of planned works

And a key reason why they'll likely ignore email requests for train services to Geelong for the footy, is because the footy is in Geelong - the number of daily commuters being disrupted during these works will seriously outnumber those traveling from Melbourne to attend a Friday night footy match in Geelong... It's not like this is occurring during the finals or the grand final

As we did last year, note the distribution in this thread, as it's unlikely to be the only distribution this year and not sure they each warrant their own thread
