We should take the best midfielders/runners available in the rookie draft. We added some real height to the list with all those talls, but now we need a few more midfield options. The mail on Aisake is good so I wouldn't bother getting a ruckman.

Seems an absolute monty to me we should take Todd Grima. Played all his junior footy as a defender and had fantastic success as a forward this year. I rated him top 25.

How tall is Grima and as a defender can he take a mark or does he just spoil?
Does he have much pace as we really need young defenders who have some height and toe?

Any reason why he wasn't picked in the draft, ie. what weaknesses does he have?

Thanks in advance.

192cm

He's a little undersized currently and there is a question mark over how well he would do against tougher opposition than he was up against at the championships in DIV 2 when he kicked a 10 goal bag.

His marking is good but he doesn't take enough marks overhead currently, not that he can't.

This will seem like a very strange comment but as a forward he seems to shirk a contest or two occassionally, yet when he's a defender I've seen him nearly kill himself.

His family genes seem to indicate putting on size will not be a problem.

Good speed, excellent at reading the play.

Played as a forward this year but played most of his junior footy as a back.

Rieschbieth or Iles might be more suited to what Carlton needs, but I think Grima is the next best available player.

He was taken at 48 by Adelaide

I am happy with who we got in the draft.

Should be all good for the club in the long run I reckon.

Cheers for that. :thumbsu:

Does anyone know much about Rieschbieth or Iles and how would they be suited to Carlton's needs??

Just stoked with our draft picks, so considering our haul of Talls , does any one have info on Gae Garnt & Matty White? they could gives us some needed speed in the middle?
Would they be good value in the Rookie draft?
Thanks
Ciao

I have been on the bandwagon ever since he booted the bag of ten against the short people, but it was not so much that he kicked them but more the fact that his exceptional agility for a bloke over the 190cm looked obvious to me as he was appearing from every angle and taking the grabs when you did not think he was in the contest. Add to that...when he was interviewed he sounded like a particularly lucid individual, especially for a footballer.;)

I think what put Edwards ahead of him was the fact that he was bottom aged and the recruiters had more of a chance to see him against quality opposition.

If Waite was worth our third round selection then I certainly think Grima is at least worth our first rookie spot.

i heard Mac Murphy has a cousin who playes For The Melbourne tigers in the NBL not sure who they didn;t say

They're on their way from W.A already of course.

A shoulder reconstruction did not deter Carlton from selecting another Shark, Josh Kennedy, at No.4.

The key forward was the highest of the WA drafts, despite being unable to return to the field for another six months.

"It's an awesome feeling, I've got through the pain of my shoulder surgery and my sling will come off in a month. Then I can start training, but I'm not sure about playing next year," Kennedy said.

Joining Kennedy at Carlton will be Peel Thunder's Paul Bower. A dearth of talls in the Blues backline suggests he will play senior football in his debut year.

"I want to play a few games, but I'm pretty thin (89kg) so I need to put on at least 5kg to play on bigger-bodied players like Warren Tredrea," Bower said.

He jets off to Melbourne today with Kennedy.

A great job by Hughes with these selections. Couldn't be happier with Murphy the ebst midfielder/player in the draft at no.1. Kennedy and Bower will be out bookends up at CHF and CHB respectively. Edwards sounds very promising, the Blues rated him higher than 36 and he is already 192cm and hopefully will grow another couple of cm's.

Surprised we didn't take Swallow at 36 but very happy with Edwards none the same. The rookie draft has plenty of talent this year, hopefully we take a couple of good midfielders along the lines of Jackson, Dzufer, Rischbieth, Grant, M.Thomas or a back-flanker like Looby or Toovey.

The other point to remember is that some of these kids could be taken in the Pre-Season Draft (prior to the Rookie draft), like what we did with Eddie Betts last year.

It is only ever...say, about one or two or none.

We can only hope that the ones we want are still left over for when we have our picks.

Good point WTTF, forgot that!

Are guys like Spaanderman, M.Stevens likley-types for us or others to rookie? Personally would like kids that missed out this year.

I'm pretty sure Dzufer and Grant are too young to rookie.

From the pre-draft ratings, you would expect Jace Bode, Ryan Jackson, McEntee or Toovey might be the best available.

Presently, i would like to see Jace Bode or Jackson rookied. Jackson's attitude sounds great, but both might lack a bit in pace from what i can gather.

What about Richbieth he would be handy at 1 in rookie draft

Happy with what we got but i would have liked Hurn at 4 as i think he will be a gun, you will find most players that excelled at cricket as well turn into gun players. Another one that was overlooked in the draft was James Wall a tall mobile defender with arms like Fletcher would have prefered him maybe more so than Edwards, but a lot of good players in the rookie draft and we should do really well out of that, does anyone know how many rookie spots we have i think it may be 3 left if that is the case i would like Grima, Rischbieth and Wall that would be a great draft for the blues

Given that Collo came out recently stating our new youth policy, I'd be shocked if we didn't pick the best kids available.

Remember that they have to be "top aged" to be eligible for the Rookie List.

"If" Camporeale is delisted and Kouta is a veteran off the primary list (which I think he is in 2005) then we get 2 picks.

We have Batson, O'aHailpin & Jessie-Smith already as Rookies.
