It pretty much certain that Marc Murphy will go at pick #1 in this years draft so i was wondering at what position people think he would go if he was in the 2001 draft with the likes of the hodges, balls, judds? how does this draft compare to others?

How do you compare Hodge's kicking on the run to Hurn's? Hodge is sublime.

I don't want Carlton to draft another Massie, Vance, Livingston, etc. :( , but Hurn's height and weight combined with his screening results are impressive for a guy who's only turned 18 in the last month.

It would be great to watch Hurn load up from 50 at home or hit Fev on the chest in perfect conditions under a roof.

Put it this way, from what I have heard, Murphy would not be the #1 choice of alot of clubs. Even the Blues are not certain yet.

Similar to the Griffen scenario last year. He went at 3 but alot of clubs commented before and after the draft that he was their #1 pick. I know the Eagles were certain that Griffen was their #1.

Alright then! Who is your top 6 players from the draft or from what you have heard?

West Coast = Colin Wisbey?

:p

Obviously the two do have similar preferences for players though...

im sure murphy will be a great player but its too early to compare him to a hodge, ball, judd for the reasons that we look at the 3 and think well they could be the best 1st 3 ever taken because of wat they have done now because murphy aint bein compared to the 3 at the same age coz very few ppl can remember how good they were in thier 2000 - 2001 years before being drafted and that goes for the scouts aswell coz i can remember how much speculation there was and who rightly deserved the no1 mantle coz if im correct all 3 had injuries in 01 and correct me if im wrong on this aswell but alot of ppl wouldve taken polak at no1 they come out and said which is the same as last year with deledio and griffen i personally was hopein that griffen would end up at no4 but ya win some and ya loose some, but as i was sayin ya cant judge him now wait till he's had a taste of the big time then compare after his first or second year....so i guess it would be reasonable to compare deledio and griffen to the class of 01 coz the played the year and well every1 knows how they performed so if ya gunna be comparing any1 to the 01 1st 3 then its those 2....

Ever heard of full-stops?

I think Deledio was a worthy no. 1 pick and will win a Brownlow in the not-too-distant future. I can't believe the composure this kid has in the AFL while still finishing his VCE.

Don't go overboard with the brownlow medal mate, there have been lots of star midfielders who haven't won it, and saying that deledio will win one soon might be pushing it a little

Yes... and of course the real number 1 will slip down to WC....

I know, their thoughts seem very similar actually. Colin also rated Beau Waters and Sam Butler very highly when we took them at 11 and 20 in 2003. The only one where it seems we conflicted was Matt Rosa who we took at 29 last year. Apparantly we rated Matt at 7 in last years group. Colin didnt have anytime for him at all.

I think you will find that every club compiles a list where they rank the draft. It doesnt matter what pick they come in at. As each player is drafted, each club puts a line through that player on the list. When their pick comes around, they take the highest player on their list (who is left).

I was going to do a my own phantom draft with profiles (like I did last year) but I doubt I will have time.

I dont see anywhere near enough of the kids (Vic especially) to really comment on my own draft order. However, based on what I have heard and also read on the types of players that they are, my top6 would be this:

1. Hurn
2. Murphy
3. Kennedy
4. Ellis
5. Dowler/ Clarke/ Varcoe/ Pfeiffer

That is not how I expect the draft to fall. I think Ryder will go very close to top5 however I am cautious about those small ruck types who you plan on transforming into key forwards. Personally, I would rather a pure KPP like Dowler/ Clarke who you know can play KP with a top5 pick.

I also have a feeling that Pfeiffer has been underestimated on this board and will go earlier than expected. He has been playing senior SANFL footy, is mature and ready to play. I think he is a good chance to go top10. SA kids always seem to be understimated somewhat (see Thomson and Russell last year who both were not rated massively [on here] but both went top 11).

TheHeatleyStand gets more right than TOA with his reported connections to Carlton.

I did have a discussion over Fev on the Carlton board prior to trade week becuase you were all adament Fev wouldnt be going anywhere. You all thought he is going to be a Blues player forever and is a top bloke etc. Well, I was right because Fev was offered for trade becuase the blues are fed up with him (like I said). You might remember I said something about abit of biff at a rehab session, will the player Fev was involved with will be leaving very soon to the Bombers.

Yeh I know its not groundbreaking stuff, I didnt say it was however it was in response to HeatleyStand's comment who was implying the Eagles wouldnt look at a player because he was a top pick.

Heard from who?????????????????????Murphy will go number 1, and maybe he wouldnt go 1 in the super draft, but he would still go no1 ahead of alot of former no1s.

I never heard of any fisticuffs between players and it would be all over the unofficial Carlton sites if it had occurred.

I got that and Roughead wouldn't have been Richmond's pick if they had have pick two in last year's draft. It doesn't mean Murphy isn't the best talent available because a recruiting manager likes a certain type of player.

Deledio's a gun with his pace, ability overhead and kicking, but Carlton may have preferred Griffen's leadership and toughness like the Dogs.
