Yeah I couldn't imagine how he's feeling. I lost my lisence a few years back and had to go to court for an extraordinary licence and absolutely shat balls in there
I hope you went to manners school and kept your hands out of your pockets.

Impending charges haven't stopped Marley Williams playing for Collingwood. Hopefully Newman gets a run in the preseason games.

No way will the eagles play Murray in the nab cup, would not be good for anyone if
Murray loses his cool and smacks someone on the field.
Did you see him push that Dockers player in the shoulder? Lucky he didn't do the McGinnity and take out a Docker head.

He's not very quick though and for a little guy I reckon he's gonna struggle to make an impact.

I thought he showed his pace a couple of times last night.

He's actually got quite a good turn of pace, and can accelerate when needed. If you get a chance to watch him at WAFL level, you'll notice it a lot more.

Maybe wafl players are just a bit slower? I dunno, he got burned off by Mzungu, who is quite quick, but if you want to be a small player in the afl you either have to be a clearance god, have elite endurance, or elite speed. He definitely doesn't have elite endurance.

How does everyone feel about a convicted criminal playing for us?

Would we draft a kid who had been convicted of a similar offence as a juvenile?

Is that relevant? Would we have drafted Cousins as a mature ager after he was caught running from a booze bus?

Dont forget the Pies drafted Andrew Krakouer after he spent years in prison.

One stupid mistake as a 19yr old should not be a life sentence both in terms of his real and football life. It is worth supporting him, if he was let go then I would worry for him. He deserves our support, even if he is somewhat fortunate to have it.

Would it be different if he was found not guilty on a technicality? Or if the jury believed his "self defence" claims? Treatment of Milne suggests that a conviction is not required for the broader footballing community to judge.

I'm pretty keen on the whole second chance/redemption and "our club is not a court" line of thought. But it's a pretty complicated matter, clubs often act as courts and deem certain acts unacceptable even before the real courts have had their chance, with the decision often primarily driven by motives other than justice, such as PR, on field performance, or just convenience (Saints with Lovett).

Helps in the diversity stakes though.

Difference with Krakouer, is that he'd already been released from prison (considered to be reformed), unlike Newman, who was found guility while he was on our list and was only demoted to the rookie list. IMO, he shouldn't even be considered until after his sentencing (and obviously has not been given a prison sentence). I don't mind him training with the club, being given support, etc, though; but he shouldn't be playing at the moment, even if it's only in pre-season.
