It's Durant's to lose right now. He has been the best player in the league, on by far the best team.

If Melo wins it will be another Rose feel good fairytale story. He has been fantastic but there isn't anything he's doing better than Durant. LeBron is the best player in the league but while they are not leading the East he's not winning it.

melo, KD, lebrone, kobe.
Kobe?

He isnt even in the conversation. He has been ok but his team is below .500, when was the last player to win MVP with there team being below .500. Right now he isnt even in the conversation.

Not sure why everyone just says LeBron. He is actually having an average season so far by his standards and his Heat are not on top of the East.

Right now id have Melo and Durant comfortably in front of LeBron. Long way to go though.

Durant's season so far:

28 points on 52/43/90 shooting (we're nearly a third of the way through the season, this is insane). 8.5 boards and 4.2 assists, and the first positive assist/TO ratio of his career. Throw in a combined 3 blocks/steals per game, a 21-4 record and a team that is flat out demolishing opponents.

It's funny that the "should Presti have traded Harden, did they pull the trigger too soon, how will they react to losing a core player" talk has all dissolved, while all we talk about now is the Knicks' resurgence and the Lakers' troubles. Ergo, Melo is getting all this MVP buzz from it, when really Durant is having a phenomenal season and should be a clear favourite.

I think part of it is that Melo has never fully realised his outrageous natural talent, so the fact he's having a career year + the Knicks rolling = MVP buzz. Whereas Durant has been playing at a very high level for 4-5 years now, so rather than recognise his historic season (so far) it's just "oh, he's doing the usual".

Right now IMO:

1. Durant

2. Melo
3. LeBron

4. Kobe/Paul

But it can all change very quickly and it's very early still. For Melo to stay in the discussions Knicks are going to have to absolutely destroy the East. If Heat close in you can forget his chances as. If OKC wins the west and Durant keeps playing like he has you can also forget his chances. Melo is just an all round inferior player to both LeBron and Durant. A lot less rebounds, assists even steals and blocks. Only thing that holds him up there is points (which he gets less efficiently than both 47% vs 51% and 53%) and his teams record.

In the end I predict the same 2 horse race between Lebron/Durant. Durant is bound to get one in the next few years and it could easily be this year. His game has gone to another level again.

With Lebron and Durant barely missing any games it's going to be hard for anybody else to win in the next 5 years. Rose did well to cash in when he did.

Lebron. Durant close.

No, someone will eventually get the Karl Malone MVP aka the "you've been great for ages but not the best, but **** it, here's the MVP".

lebrone is the most all round player in the league and espn love him. he gets so much attention that its generally his mvp to lose....

hope durant isnt given malone mvp
Durant wouldnt be a Malone MVP. Durant is good enough to win one on merit and so far this year, he certainly deserves. Malone and Barkley should have asterisk's next to there wins in the stat books.

But I thought Melo already won it this season? :p

I have the feeling this year it's KD's to lose, especially if he continues to play around his current level for a large part of the season.

ESPN is giving off a LeBron is just being LeBron vibe at the moment, the curse of being as good as he is I guess, I do think LBJ and the Heat have given off a 'cruising' vibe at times so far though.

I think Paul has to be right in the conversation at the moment.
