Does anyone like them? These guys are favourite band at the moment. They just released what i think is their best album yet, The Black Parade. I liked all the songs off the album but my favourites are Famous Last Words, Sleep, Teenages and This Is How I Disappear.

I've said it on here before, but i think that Helena tune is a reasonably well written tune, especially the chorus. I used to have that in my head for ages when it was getting a fair bit of airplay on the various music channels on Foxtel.

Everything else i have heard from them makes me want to inflict pain on anything within arm's reach. And their set the other day at the BDO only enhanced that.

I've got the album, I actually really like it. It's a 2000's version of the 'concept/theme/Rock opera' type of album. I especially love 'Sleep'. Ripper track.

I'm curious Roddy, does it sound polished to the point of being suspicious? I.e, pitch enhanced, pro tooled to the bejesus etc?

I've read some big reviews for the album you're talking about and a few people who's opinions i respect have told me its worth a listen.

But fair dinkum dude, bad mix aside (and it was an absolute stinker) they were pretty sloppy at the BDO on Sunday. The drummer was tight enough although doesnt bring a whole lot to the table in terms of licks, but for the rest of them it was bum note city. But the singer took the cake. He seriously couldnt cut it live.

I might have caught them on a bad day though. And its probably worth noting that i came away saying the similar things about Alice in Chains when i saw them!!

It's funny, I've done alot of recording on Pro-Tools myself, and yet I can't tell for sh*t if something's been heavily pro-tools'd or not. Lots of people say they can. TBP just sounds good to me. But yeah, being bad live is pretty unmistakeable, and I've read that about MCR from others as well. Kinda tells ya somethin', doesn't it?
(And I agree about AinC. Terrible performance :thumbsd:)

sounds like they are copying green day to me.
I saw them live when they supported green day at telstra dome, and thought they were woeful, as did pretty much everyone standing around me. you cnat understand what he is singing and they have no stage presence whatsoever, they really need to watch jimmy eat world and green day who were after them to see how they need to act on stage.

I personally haven't seen them live but i think the album is great. I actually read somewhere that when they first started they would preform while they where drunk cause they where so nervous. So maybe nerves could be affecting live shows?

One of my favourite bands. Gerard's voice is distinctive, but weak live. The guitarist can play a bit.

I understand why people wouldn't like them, heck I went to their show at Festival Hall last night and I was in the top 20 oldest people there (I'm 23), excluding parents. I could see over everyone!

They know how to appeal to the masses, while still portraying an image of being 'individual'. Kudos should be going to whoever is in charge of marketing this band. They know how to make a quid out of it.

Haven't heard any albums so can't comment on that but saw the first half of there BDO set and I just felt that the lead singers voice is very weak. In fact he sounded terrible.
Compare his voice to every other singer i saw (except the Jet singer who is woeful) and I just didn't think his voice is up to it live.
There was something about them that i was trying to like so yeah i can understand the popularity but if you can't sing live then you have a problem.

I bought TBP since I like Dead!, pretty catchy. The rest of the album did nothing for me though, just sounded pretty generic, not interesting.

A friend of mine rates it as the best album of the year though.

one of my favourite albums for 2006, the first few songs linked together are very nice, and the highlights continue thourgh out the album

Thought id give this a listen to see what the kids were on about and my opinion of them has actually decreased.

Its a woeful album with uninspired vocals, generic riffs, poor mixing and brings absolutely nothing unique to the table. Totally one-dimensional. I also dislike how with many of these bands it sounds like they have about 56 rhythm guitars but you can barely hear a lead, if at all.

Kids - want to hear a quality, multi-dimensional band from a similar genre - get a Gyroscope album. The mixture of grunge-rock with a dab of punk is better then anyone else is doing at the moment.
