My dad's a Doggies fan. I've always had a soft spot for the Dogs, but he never really liked Geelong. Anyway, he has very thoughtful and creative opinions regarding footy, so I thought I'd share this one.

He was appalled at Chris Scott's behaviour during the post-match interview. He claimed Scott was "bad-mouthing one of the best players ever", that "putting an absolute gun to shame in public over one little brain fart was not on" and that "no coach should go to some shitty opposition player's defense against a legend". Then he said, if Geelong happen to have a rough start to the year, with more losses, shit would stir up between Scarlo and Scotty, then eventually between the vets and Scott.

What do you think of this?

I thought it was really interesting, but unlikely.

Still that .1% possibility though.

Coaches have always had jibes at players when they've done wrong.

What'd he have to say about Mark Neelds first official presser?

I'm sure Scarlett knows he has let the team down.

They have massive respect for each other.
The Scott /Scarlett chemistry was one of the first things that happened last year,

Guess Dad's a little insecure. Rodney Eade would ALWAYS blame Dogs players and have gos at them, and we all know how that turned out.

tell the oldman that Lake now has a genuine shot at having the media tickle him on the butt cheeks for the following 3 or 4 weeks as they rave on about his excellence and Scarlett's fade from grace (yep, they will likely forget he's suspended as well;)).

It's not every day that you see a veteran player completely lose his shit for a second and do something idiotic that ultimately removes him from the equation for a month. Scott's position is justified, whereas Eade would throw his players under the bus for what could have amounted to game plan flaws, or poorly communicated match-day coaching. If Scarlett takes issue with anything Scott said then he has lost the message that was made so clear to the group in 2007 whenever honest criticism was given:

"If they thought the guy was an idiot that was irrelevant; if he was a distraction, that was a different matter, for everything was linked to the team's goal of winning games and the premiership."

One of Scott's many strengths is his calmness in front of the media and his respect for the opposition..*

I suspect what he says in public and what he says behind closed doors are somewhat different.

* Refer to the foxsports grand final commentary. When asked how Varcoe was in so much space when he marked/kicked his second goal Scott paid tribute to Steve J faking a long kick then shortpassing to Varcoe.

We all know the real reason is because Neon Leon is a final's nuffy who didn't think it important to pick up his man

And this is what makes us different to the St Kildas and the Doggies of the AFL................our coaches run the club, not the players. Scarlo was way out of line and has now placed added pressure on the team because of his lack of control. Brain fade or not, no man is bigger than the club, and Scotty was right to criticise Scarlo's behaviour. Having said that, the little prick Ballantyne should be cited for bringing the game into disrepute. His antagonistic ways are outside the spirirt of the game, and because of this, he will be remembered for this legacy. The one good thing to come out of this is that finally Tom Gillies may get a decent run in the seniors, and we can get to see what he is made of.
Overall, Im not too dissapointed in the loss, but I was frustrated at the lack of disciline shown by the lads. 3 reports, 6 50 metre penalties, a loss, and there was some real lack of desperation from some of the senior players. I hope complacency isnt setting in.

Ridiculous. Scarlett deserved to be criticized by his coach. He suffered a brain fade that arguably cost us the match, and weakened our defence against Hawthorn next week. You don't expect a brain fade from THE mst experienced player in the team.

Bet your Dad is stoked you brought him to everyones attention....thanks son

This board is becoming harder to visit day-by-day. I'm not referring to the OP visitor either.

Edit: as for Dad's opinion, I disagree. I only listened to the PC once, but never at any stage thought CS was getting into Scarlett, or the team too much. It was pretty measured, which is what we come to expect from Scott.

From what we've seen since 2007 with this playing group, you would think that they are a lot more level-headed and well equipped to deal with this situation without breaking away from the coach.

Exactly.

Bet people are gonna be able to track him down now that I've mentioned him a couple of times?

He made the outrageous opinion, it deserves attention. So gtfo, newbie

True. And what's CS gonna say? Seriously we all wish we could've done what he did to Ballantyne, truth be told.

Yeah. I imagine that the players and coaches have a strong relationship.

But apparently (I read this online) the players got too close to Bomber in 2010. They didn't even take him seriously anymore.

So I suspect there may be a lot of truth in Scott's statements anyway.

Exactly.

Wow hurtful, not a very inclusive attitude is it? And that language? you kiss your father with that mouth? Relax Muttweed it was a light hearted comment, no offence intended, and I am a newbie when it comes to Bigfooty, not real footy, you?

That is one very long bow being drawn. Scarlett is a professional and can take criticism. Whether it is in the media or behind closed doors the same things would have been said.
