Not bad, but I would not put Pettigrew in the backlines.

HB- Lonie/ Chaplin/ Wilson
B- Walsh/ Wakelin/ Bishop

F- Brogan/ K. Cornes/ P. Burgoyne/ Francou

Int- Wanganeen/ Salopek/ Pettigrew/ M. Thomas

Emergency- Ebert/ Thurstans/ Thomson

Im still undecided on the best 22, but I would like too see our round 1 side look something like this.

F Wanganeen White Mahoney

HF Motlop Tredrea{C} Pettigrew

C Dew K.Cornes Salopek

HB S.Burgoyne Chaplin Lonie

B Bishop Wakelin Walsh

IR Lade P.Burgoyne Cassisi

INT Brogan Pearce Wilson Symes

--------------------------------
I think Francou after his knee surgery will have his work cut out to be fit for round 1. I think Ebert will probably be in the mix ahead of Symes for round 1 as well, but I'd like Symes to get a chance.

Things may change obviously before round 1, Brogan is someone at the moment to me who looks void of any confidence at all.

One player too many in the team.

Dang, that means I've got one too many players as well. In that case, dump Damon White all together.
Then we'll end up with a very short side and no talls on the bench.

Here is my side, my only concern is that it might be a little tall but at the same time I have selected Thurstans on the bench should we need any extra help in the ruck or down back.

I would like to have Peter Walsh in the team as he is able to add some good run out of the backline and can pinch hit through the middle, however with the introduction of Lonie we might have this covered.

Brett Ebert I also would have liked to have included but who do you drop, Lonie? So the point in recruiting him was? Toby Thurstans could be possibly the only other option.

Adam Kingsley can't be considered due to injury and Josh Francou, well firstly I don't like the idea of having two players (Wanganeen and himself) as permanent bench players, secondly for much the same reasons as Matthew Primus.

Chad not good enough to squeeze onto the bench ?

My round 1 side.

Based on form and likely fitness (eg. Francou won't be match fit at round 1 so no chance of a gig in my side).

With my side I've tried to strike a balance between the best possible side and one that also includes younger/less experienced players given more responsibilities, since the likes of Bishop, Kingsley or Francou can't keep playing indefinitely.

This is largely the side I'd hope would be playing together round 1 AND round 22.

FB : Walsh Wakelin Pettigrew
HB : Wilson Chaplin Symes
C : Dew S. Burgoyne C. Cornes
HF : Pearce Tredrea Cassisi
FF : Motlop White Mahoney
1R : Brogan P. Burgoyne K. Cornes
Int : Lade Ebert Salopek Wanganeen

8 talls, 14 smalls. A good balance. And not too old with only Wanganeen and Wakelin unlikely to be available the following season.
Pettigrew is named as the third tall down back, but if the opposition doesn't play 3 talls forward, I'd be pushing him into our forward area.
Similiarly as a small Wanganeen I'd be looking to play mostly forward, but can drop back if required.
White is the stay at home FF, Tredrea CHF. And never the two shall meet (or at least lead towards each other :D )
Ebert and Salopek rotate through the MIDFIELD, along with Cassisi and Pearce. Chad and Junior B. to start in the midfield.

It's certainly a much stronger looking defense and midfield then we had against the Crows.

Of course what I expect WILL happen is Choco totally ignores any need for rebuilding once the real stuff starts and plays Bishop and Francou. And Kingsley to boot as soon as he's fit. :(

My side would be:

Code:
Motlop White Pearce
Pettigrew Tredrea Mahoney
Dew K Cornes S Burgoyne
Symes C Cornes Walsh
Chaplin Wakelin Wilson

1st
Brogan
P Burgoyne
Cassisi

Int (from)
Lade
Wanganeen
Francou
Salopek
Ebert
Lonie
Thomson

White as FF, Pearce as the crumber, with Motlop able to play the O'Loughlin small/tall lead up forward pocket.

Tredrea, to play at CHF, with Pettigrew/Mahoney around him. Once again both his offsider can take a grab, but are good at ground level.

Placed Kane in the middle, Dew on a wing, specifically for his penetration and delivery, and Shaun just runs with the ball so well.

Initally Chad at CHB (on paper) but him and Chaplin to take a tall each and work it out to try and get Chad free.
Walsh and Wilson for some hardness. Chad will definitely spend time on the ball, where this happens, Pettigrew is able to drop back and pick up the third tall if required, with Chaplin to assume true CHB.

Have provided a list of 7 to select interchange from, Lade in for sure, Wanganeen also as a pinch hitter.

I like that 22. I'd probably shuffle it a little to push Chad back to CHB, Dom to a wing and the Grew forward. What I'd really like to see on a fine day is Willits in the goalsquare with White and Tredrea across HF, with Grew, Motlop and Pearce. Might give us the incentive to run and kick long to marking targets. But then I struggle who to leave out for Willits ... and White becomes the obvious candidate! Dew and Mahoney want to show a bit more in the trial games too.

Just on your fears about Francou, Bishop and Kingsley coming back in, Andre ... I think you can pencil Lonie in for a gig too ... Choco will give his tradees every opportunity.

Crap just noticed. Crank Thomson out of the side and put P.Burgoyne on the wing and Dom on the bench, i guess.

Scrap that, Thomson out of the side and Francou onto the bench like so:

F D.Motlop B.Lade D.Pearce

HF D.White W.Tredrea S.Dew

C C.Cornes S.Burgoyne D.Cassisi

HB N.Lonie T.Chaplin M.Wilson

B M.Bishop D.Wakelin M.Pettigrew

F D.Brogan K.Cornes P.Burgoyne

I G.Wanganeen J.Mahoney S.Salopek J.Francou

Looks like a very well balanced side to me

I like it, but i think i'd drop Bishop and Thurstans. 3 Talls down back should suffice, and chad can be taken from the midfield if someone's injured / having a shocker.

Midfield's where we're weak and including ebert on the bench and maybe symes increases our rotation possibilities.

With regard to Lonie, if we're judging form on one game (which is all we can do at the moment), he wouldn't be in the best 22. A coach should never be too proud...

I'd be giving Thommo a run before Francou.

why play chad cornes on a wing. He's one of best 5 players.
Play him in the guts and let him use his big body around stoppages and centre clearances.God knows we need it these days.

B pettigrew wakelin wilson
HB s burgoyne chaplin symes
c cassisi salopek ebert
HF p burgoyne tredrea pearce
F motlop white wanganeen
1R Brogan k cornes c cornes

interchange lade, francou,thomson,walsh

wilson and s burgoyne must spend time in the midfield. wilson for his hardness and s burgoyne for class. When this happens we can bring on walsh in the backline or chad if he doesn't require a break.
6 genuine young players in the side ie pearce, pettigrew, symes, ebert, salopek and thomson.May be 1 too many and if so mahoney is an option.
we can also play francou and p burgoyne thru the midfield.

ps dew and bishop have not mistakenly been left out

Mahoney in for Francou and Dew in for White, this is the best line up yet. Dead right about Cornes in the middle. :thumbsu: :thumbsu:

B: M.Wilson, D.Wakelin, M.Bishop
HB: P.Walsh, C.Cornes, S.Burgoyne
C: D.Cassisi, , S.Salopek, S.Dew
HF: D.White, W.Treadre, J.Mahoney
F: T.Thurstans, B.Lade, D.Motlop
R: D.Brogan, P.Burgoyne, K.Cornes

Int: D.Pearce, T.Chaplin, N.Lonie, M.Pettigrew

Emg: J.Ezard, B.Ebert, J.Francou, G.Wanganeen,

Now if you look at the worse case scenario of having a few injuries I think this side has the best ability to cover that situation.

Players who can play up forward:
C.Cornes, S.Burgoyne, D.Cassisi, S.Dew, D.White, W.Treadre, J.Mahoney, T.Thurstans, B.Lade, D.Motlop, D.Brogan, P.Burgoyne, D.Pearce, N.Lonie, M.Pettigrew.

Players who can play up back:
M.Wilson, D.Wakelin, M.Bishop, P.Walsh, C.Cornes, S.Burgoyne, T.Thurstans, K.Cornes, T.Chaplin, M.Pettigrew.

This team is filled with quality players and gives us greater flexibility.
