I was at the game today and I will be the first to admit our younger players were not too good today, Murphy in that last quarter had about 5 touches in a row and turned them allover I think on 2 occasions they rebounded and kicked goals to sink us. I am pissed off and disappointed but in another way I wasn't expecting to make finals. The things that pisses me off is that we seem to be thinking that hey we can let a team run over us in 3 quarters and then we will come back and do some barn storming. I was sitting next to some Don's fans and even when we hit the lead I told them they would win, because you can't do that 3 weeks in a row and we didn't deserve to win. It was a good loss because if we had won we would have kept making the same mistakes and never learnt. You can't give any team a 7 goal start and then play crap for 3 quarters and still expect to win. But we are on the right track the way we are going lets look to finish the season on a high and if we can play 4 quarters , instead of just one I am sure we might even sneak into the 8.

I know this is a long post but in a way it needs to be said that we can't expect to win coming from a long way behind all the time. We were lucky in the last 2 games but I know it wasn't going to happen today. You can ask any other Carlton fan there today if we deserved to win and I bet they will say no. Essendon wanted it more than us, they went in hard and all credit to the Don's and their coach. But hey we will learn from this and I for one am looking forward to the rest of the season and the future. Cause trust me our future is looking bright, we will have to start wearing our sun glasses at night.

you say the same thing every week mate.

They were shithouse today!! 2nd to the ball and totally unaccountable!!! Did we even lay a tackle at all?

I dont mind losing if they have a red hot go but today was an absolute disgrace and the players should put cash together for my petrol..

And if 2mill for 3 years isnt enough fev ____ off then ( my fav player to)

We needed this loss, If we didn't have it we would have lost to richmond next week and that games more important since richmond is half decent compared to essendon.

I am disappointed and upset but hey tomorrow is another day and there is so much to look forward to with the team we have. Out kids are going to go places and like I said I am really looking forward to the rest of the year and beyond. Yes we will lose games but hopefully today we learnt a very big lesson and can improve on that and I am sure we will.

No, we didn't need this loss. Every loss decreases our chances for a final 8 finish - and we lost against a side who weren't going very well. We had the form, and no excuses... and we lost by six goals. A bigger margin than against Adelaide.

For all we know, a win tonight could've given us the confidence to totally demolish Richmond. These hypotheticals are incredibly ridiculous.

Just need to pinch an unexpected one now either Bulldogs or Swans will be a good start and start to hold serve when we are expected too.

We have a chance against everyone .... 50/50 at the start of the game what happens after that is in the hands of the players. It was disappointing today we won't make finals and we prolly don't deserve to be there after todays performance. But we have a lot to look forward to we do have a bright future and we have the right men at the top to get us there.

bombers were ok..we were poor.well done bombers..there you go champ
Meh, you can try and be patronising but I would have thought that you'd pay some respect to a team which had beat you only hours earlier.
Hey if you read some of my post I did give you guys credit don't jump to conclusions.
The post I quoted was not yours mate.

Hille was fantastic today but timing/age is going to be a problem for you guys - Fletcher going and probably Lloydy before you are at GF standard, which means if Hille keeps it up, you will need your midfield to come up to WCE standard to balance out these losses.

Really?

Ryder, although not at his best was pretty damn good today, and killed Fisher. That's our new Fletcher. Pears looks pretty good, although we haven't seen much of him. Possibly (hopefully) Michael Hurley as well.

Up forward, Neagle - you saw what he can do today, and he's only going to get better with a few preseasons. Gumbleton, if he ever gets on the park, will be very good as well.

I think we (Ess and Carl) have the best two young lists, and #17 will be coming soon for both sides. I think our youngsters are more even, and across more positions, and you have more standouts (Murphy, Gibbs, Kreuzer), and more holes (key forward, key backs).

Should be a fun next few years.:thumbsu:

So you have compared our men at the top with everybody else's and have declared our men to be the "right" ones have you?

You may or may not be right but I'd like a little more detail... Oh - hang on! They delivered us Judd and three number one draft picks...silly of me! ;)

No I am saying we have some good young kids at the club, but we also have a lot of dead wood that has to go. Read some of my other post as well, we are still a average team with too many passengers a few have to be dropped to the reserves to be taught that you have to earn your spot on the list simple.

This is one of the most honest, respectful and correct things i've read on here.
I hope Carlton posters can be this honet with other clubs at times.

Im really disappointed in todays game. Some are saying this is the loss we needed to have:rolleyes: it was pathetic the way we were second to the ball and our decision making and disposal was well below par. I dont mind losing as long as we gave it our best and can walk off the ground with our heads up....Today we cant. Essendon are a side that we should beat NO EXCUSES. Yes we are developing and all the rest of it, But these are the games we must win.

Was the Collingwood game highlighted to much? did it get to the players heads? i mean did we just think rocking up was enough to get the points?.

The last 3 games the Bombers have now won against us. A team that not many rate,A team that has nowhere near the talent in the midfield that we do.

The backline was a rabble today. How many options up forward did the Bombers have that won their position.

We are WAY to Fev concious. YES he kicks 7, but how many times is it kicked to him when he isnt one out? or how many times did a player run INSIDE 50 and still kick to him...........if your inside 50... back yaself and kick the goal.
Talk was rubbish today. Murphy (love ya Murph but what were you thinking?)ran in and stuffed a goal....kick the thing when you were 30 out. why run all the way in and stuff a handball up.
Simpson running into 50....noone tells him your clear run in and kick the goal he rushes the kick and it gets cleared.

The centre clearances......they destroyed us.

Anyway thats my rant over.

Im a little pissed off with what i saw today but i will be there next week as i am every week ......A vast improvement on todays game will be needed if we are to get anywhere near the Tigers. :thumbsu:

no loss is a needed loss. but when you do lose you must find lessons out of it. today is no different.

we did not deserve to win with our intensity or skills. simple. after tasing a bit of success with 6 wins, hopefully the boys realise that they certainly haven't made it and that they are still average at best.

but even though our performance for most of the day was terrible, i am incredibly proud that we actually hit the front after being so far down. i don't care if we lost - we showed some heart and commitment getting back into the game and that is a real positive. that is something we have lacked a lot of in the last few years. just look at what we can do when we put our heads down - it's a great sign for the future, even though it didn't pay off today.

p.s. what if gibbs kicked that goal hey? entirely different outcome.

Worse performance for the year. Second to the ball, poor discipline. The Dons just wanted it more. We could have pinched a win, but it would have been an injustice because Essendon were clearly the better team on the day. We'll learn from that. Stringing a few wins together is one thing, but having the mindset to maintain the momentum is another. We lost focus - simple as that. :)
