Mitchell has given Jacobs a smack to the chops in the game tonight. Be a nice little bonus if he gets two weeks but it didn't look serious enough for that

Didn't say he wasnt an elite kick just said he can helicopter them.

You watch carbine hodge sits at chb and waits and mitchell will sit outside the pack waiting for contested ball. In saying that i recognise they both can win their own ball but tend not to anymore

Heading to the game tomoz, will the fan fair be worth getting there early for? (i'm guessing not, thinking its mainly for the kids, but just thought I'd ask)
taking my french gf and our german housemates to their first 'proper' football game :D

Well you should have worked out by now that The Violet Crumbles always talk shit........ Hell I have a couple of Frocker mates ( I know shame on me ) and I never cease to be amazed that they rate Michael Apeness as the great white hope of emerging KPP that they have on their list, additionally they amuse me no end when they speak in glowing terms about their KPD stocks because they have Alex Silvagni waiting in the wings ( excuse the pun).

Go figure ????!!! :p One day The Lavenders might just figure out that you need a good spine as WELL as a good midfield to win the Premiership.
Are your mates my mates? I have had this exact same discussion with a couple of mine. The best part is that they've been going on about Apeness being their saviour up front every pre-season since he was drafted

Assuming you are all adults probably not worth it. Hit up a pub or something before. From the love of god hat and sun screen for the foreigners heat stroke is no joke will be close to 40 in the bowl tomorrow

lol....well maybe.

Fremantle took him pretty early ( late first rounder from memory ) and they were besotted with the big frame and his aggressive attack on ball and man.
Unfortunately for Fremantle Apeness has a couple of faults ( that were blatantly obvious even at TAC level , when he was at The Eastern Rangers ).

Firstly, whilst he is a terrific straight line player , unfortunately, his lateral movement is sadly non existent and he actually makes "The Q Stick " look nimble.
Secondly he doesn't hold his feet well in general and often goes to ground after a marking contest , he is always mindful and protective of his weak knees.
He had done an ACL before he was 16 and still has niggling knee and injury worries.

Back to his Vic Metro year he wasn't the best Vic Metro ruckman, but due to injuries and a generally poor crop of tall's that year, he was asked to fill that role even though it was not his forte.
At The Rangers he was a tall forward who did the occasional chop out job in the ruck.
At The Rangers he was a KPF that rucked occasionally ...nothing more, nothing less.

He was a monster lump of a kid that did well at the TAC level because he was 15-20 kg bigger than his opponents, they grew ..... he didn't and the rest is history. Eventually kids like him are found wanting as the advantage of bulk is quickly surpassed by talent and ability.

I coached in Melbourne (U 16 's), at a feeder Club to The Northern Knights, a decade ago and he reminded me so much of Ryan Willits ( Northern Knights and a similar late first round pick for Port # 19 2004 ) three years latter Willits was delisted by Port , I can see similar happening with Apeness.
( By the way I think Willits was a better player /prospect than Apeness).

Back to the original question.

You never know we may share mates ...... having lived 12 years away from Perth before I eventually came home , I always tell people " you know the phenomenon the of six degrees of separation.... well in Perth its .........just two degrees " ;).

Long post ....sorry for the derailment.

Hahaha I'm pretty drunk atm but Mitchell is probally the most elite kick off both sides in the entire AFL.

And yet he doesn't get tagged.

I find this very confusing and frustrating. We stuffed up big time in the GF paying him little to no attention, I would have expected better from Simpson and hope we have learned something from that. Sure you can't tag everyone but at least look at shutting down the oppositions best midfield kick who gets 30+ possessions most weeks.

I would play Yeo on Mitchell. Yeo can beat him with pace, overhead and in strength. Mitchell will take Yeo to the play and when Yeo beats him he can run off him and attack exposing Mitchell's lack of defensive ability. It would be a damn sight better effective use of Yeo than we got out of him on GF day, what was it 5 possessions and 1 goal.:mad::(

The grand final was pathetic in general, coaches and players a like. Didn't even feel like a real grand final, it was like they thought they'd get another shot and didn't care. They better be burning all year long and they better bring home the flag before JK, Priddis, Emac and Lecras retire.

Can't blame Yeos poor game on anyone but himself but you're right. If he was on Mitchell he would be way more involved and a good learning experience.

Problem with Mitchell is you cant go a niggley non attacking tag on him. He will beat thdm offensively anyway so your really just playing a man down. Now with this 10m exclusion zone Mitchell has more time and room then ever before. He will get a gazillion touches unless you tag him with someone bigger, faster, angrier.

He's the key to the Hawks chances. Hodge is a leader but not as important. No Roughie just means Cyril, Brust and Poppy go nuts.

Any team that plays the Hawks in the finals and doesn't tag Mitchell is kidding themselves.

The players let Simmo down ,they were primed and ready to go but lacked general leadership by the senior players and when the team is firing they don`t tag .Playing Naitanui was probably Simmo`s worst error but not sure if we had a replacement with Lycett and McInnes injured maybe Sinclair + Gov and play Tommy Barrass down back.
That goal by Yeo was legendary and not sure if you know but Yeo went back to defence in the 2nd half to allow Gov to go fwd in the 3rd quarter .

Weirdly, we did something right against him in the preliminary because a lot of his kicks were under pressure helicopters.

To be fair though, once upon a time they boasted a spine of Pavlich, Tarrant, Sandilands, McPharlin and Johnson and that got them nothing. So on evidence good spines don't win flags.
Then again, on evidence, Fremantle don't win flags.

That's right, the players hunted ,tackled and pressured from the 1st bounce .GF pressure was shrinking back into their shells and worrying about making mistakes.

Do u want your face painted and bounce on the bouncy castle . If so get there early

Simple fact is too that it is easier to hunt and pressure on the narrower confines of Subi.
