Was having a bit of a think as to how might line up for round 1 of the NAB cup and came up with below from memory its a 24 a side for NAB cup.

Without 5-7 of our best 22 it still looks like quite a solid line up all beit very young and inexperinced

Out inj: Hartlett, Scotland, Bentick, Banno, Warnock
Rested: Stevo, Juddy, Fev,
Simmo (int rules rest)

B: Tbird, Jamo, Bower
HB Browne, Austin, Johnson
C: Grigg, Gibbs, Walker
HF:Houla, Cloke, Russell
FF: Fish, Kruz, Betts
F: Hampson, Murphy, Hadley (needs miles in the legs)

Int: Robinson, Carrazzo,
Waite (to give assie and bower a crack at CHB) Yarran, Sentana, Anderson

Unlucky: Armfied, Okeefe, Wiggo, Edwards, Sauce

Forward line looks very thin without Fev, hopefully with our developing back 6 Waite can spend more time Forward. Really need Sentana to have a big year.

It's time to debut a new forward line for Carlton, so we can test what life will be like without Fev.

HF: Russell :: Walker :: Houlihan
F: Yarran :: Cloke :: Betts

Play Cloke out of the square, Walker as the incredibly mobile CHF, Russell as your leadup HF and Houlihan, Yarran and Betts doing what they do best.

You could move Walker into JR's position and play Kreuzer as a CHF if you wanted. Or Fish as a leadup HF, he did it well in '08.

dont think wiggo will play as the MC know exactly what they will get from him week in week out whereas some of the other guys are unknown and need to be tried at this level. Fish is doing full contract training atm (with his brace on) - he will be 100% by the start of the NAB - confidence player so needs games

NAB Cup = Glorified Practise match ..

I really want the club to start blooding more rookies in the NAB Cup, really want to see Aaron Joesph get a gig against North Melbourne .. (i am pretty sure he can still play in the NAB Cup, even if he isn't our nominated rookie)

I think anyone who picks this team should win a fully paid trip to La La Land.
Anyway, this is a team I wouldn't mind seeing on the park for the first NAB game. It doesn't matter if we win as long as we compete and play to the team plan.
Browne Jamison O'hAlpin
Johnson Bower Anderson
Grigg Betts Waite
Gibbs Hartlett Houlihan
Cloke Wiggins Yarran
Kruezer, Walker, Murphy
Hampson, Thornton, Simpson, Stevens, Robinson, Edwards

I wouldn't be resting Stevens if the rumours about his preseason are correct.

Fevola needs to be there.

Rest Judd. Scotland out due to injury, Fisher and Warnock likewise. Rest Hadley as well, and I've also rested Waite in the below team

B: Thornton Jamison Browne
HB: Johnson Bower Anderson
C: Simpson Gibbs Grigg
HF: Houlihan Cloke Walker
F: Kreuzer Fevola Betts
R: Hampson Murphy Carrazzo
INT: Austin Edwards Hartlett Bentick Bannister Robinson.

The bench is a lottery and guys like Russell, O'Keeffe, Armfield could easily find themselves in the lineup.

Grigg should be in the forward line as well. He needs the miles in his legs

Wouldn't our coaching staff be looking to get some game time into our star players? By all means rest players that are under an injury cloud or aren't 100% ready to go. If players such as Judd and Fevola are ready to go and have no injury clouds then get some game time into them to ensure that they are peaking come round 1.

Ask Fev and a certain brick wall.:D

The last thing we need is to risk players un-necessarily.

The NAB Cup is relatively meaningless so we can afford to rest some of our better players to ease them into the season.

Noone will be rested for the entire preseason but most of the older players will be at one stage or another. We don't need Judd to play against North. He'll play later in the preseason when the season draws closer. There's a long time between our match vs the Roos and round 1 so there will be plenty of time to ease Judd into a game.

That rnd 1 game against the tuggers is an extremely crucial game.
I don't want us to jepodise any players who carrying niggling injuries into the game.

Regardless North Melbourne are one of our bogey teams, haven't beaten them for a few years now, and as such, I think they are probably really going to try hard to win the NAB Cup this year, so we are going to lose straight away anyway, and no way would I risk Chris Judd in the NAB Cup.

Touche.

Grigg on the wing, Anderson HB and Bentick on the bench.

Appols J. Wasn't really even funny unless you were at least on your fifth.

Agree with Anderson call on HB and Grigg on wing. Was looking forward to see AW on a wing but what he showed last year when forward was pretty special coming back from a year out.

Being NAB Cup i think we might see Ellard, Joseph, Pfeiffer and Garlett have a run. Hope Hadley gets a run so he can cement a spot in the side.

Ideally, I like to see some forwards played in the forward half, some defenders played in the back half and I'm undecided as to who should play in the middle. Also, it might be an advantage to have some people on backup, like some sort of.......I dont know......."interchange"? I just made up that word, so I'm sorry if it confuses people. But you know, just some people to go on if our other players get tired, or injured or something.

Just throwing some ideas out there.

I suspect Fevola might play a half, but I doubt we'll see Judd or Scotland play against North Melbourne. Obviously Warnock won't play, and Fisher would have to be in doubt with his elbow injury. I'm also fairly sure you can have an extended I/C bench, so that might enable us to play a couple of extra rookies.

Waite may also be rested.

So nobody pays any attention to Ratts interview posted today re the NAB cup side and listens to what he has to say about picking a side ?

Much more fun to just type in 22 -24 names and debate the merits of playing them.

Considering Scotland is in doubt to line up against Richmond in round 1, I would say there is absolutely no chance that he'll be lining up in the opening NAB Cup match ;)

Ratts interview was tit bits and maybee's, like any good coach would put out at this time of year.

While everyone else is having fun, what is the concrete 24 direct from Ratts interview?

Hampson to ruck, with Matty K and Cloke rotating through the ruck and forward line.

Anderson, Austin, Browne and Armfield down back.

Yarran, Robbo and O'Keeffe must be on the park.

Grigg, Gibbs, Tex and Haddles to get a run.

The rest of the players, I'm not fussed about, I just want to see what the new recruits and more inexperienced players have to offer. Not bothered about wins or losses in NAB cup either, just blood some newbies and get some match fitness into Tex and Haddles.
