Oh well, seeing as I can only ban on a site-wide basis, that'll have to do.

Hi Fives all round.

Top Work.

Didn't players like Michael Tuck and Gary O'Donnell play somewhere between 50-100 reserve games before they became regular senior players ?
It might've even before they played seniors.

Yeah, Tucky played about 100 reserve games.

My bad, forgot anyone with the surname 'Ablett' isn't criticised at Geelong, despite failing to live up to even conservative expectations!

*Waits for ban from Geelong board* :D

Pretty much nathan is still young and has some development to go but it can take kpp some time to develope the body size to compete for contested ball. One key forward that was disappointing this year was that warren tredrea guy. I know some ppl are saying he dislocated his knee etc but he really didn't show much at all this year so I conclude he must be a dud :P

interesting to read that at the same age as Jnr, Snr had only played 6 games. So by that measure Nathan is also probably ahead of his old man in the development region. So when you think Jnr is about to rack up 100 and is a very good player we can really hold on to Nath for about 3 more seasons before we decided to cut him.

The thing Nathan also brings to the game is the buzz. That game against WC he tore the game apart, KP was rocking and the whole team lifted. There are only a few players in the league that can do that, and they arent always the "best of the best" but they have that factor and when they are on everyone around them rises as one.

I also think he has been restricted because we have thought we were in the hunt for a flag. Take for example the two boys from Hawthorn. Both have had some big matches, but more noticable both have been f*cking destroyed more times than not. They are both good players though and may become guns, but Hawthorn can afford to play them as they dont think they are going finals. Because we THOUGHT we were we had to try and play the best 22, and really on experience alone there are players ahead of Nathan. I would like to see us draft next year, cull our list a bit and play Hawkins and Nathan as much as possible next year. I think really we should be aiming at 2008.

Wrong.

But if you delisted every player who had 10 quiet games at the start of their career you'd cut a lot of greats out of the game.

Michael Tuck - 50 reserves games (I think). Dipper played 99 in the 2s.

By your astounding logic Hawthorn should have got rid of them right genius?

Good point on games played. Nathan would be far closer to dad than Gary in disposition. On top of that he is a bigger player than the other two in a game thats getting quicker. He at least deserves the time given to some of our other project talls. Gardiner/ McCarthy/Playfair - 01 Draft.

The two boys from the Hawks?Do you mean Roughead and Franklin? Franklin has alreaedy shown enough to make me think they can handle the level, love to have him at the Cats. Not so sure that just pumping games into young players , whether they are handling the tempo or not, is the way to go.
On the whole I'd say this is an area have been pretty good at down here. Nathan to my mind will always be a player that will require to use his strength of body to ensure he drags a bigger bodied, slower defender. Another year or two of preseason gym work and he will be a fearsome sight , in the meanwhile some agility work and 50M sprint work would be good for him. I think this would advantage him more than just games.

Shane Tuck also was with the Hawks for a couple of seasons but couldn't break into the 1sts... went to SA and came back a gun.

Travis Tuck The Hawks are going to be a lot more patient with and let him mature. No way we are letting him slip through like his brother.

Luke Ablett also worked hard to get picked up by Sydney on a very late pick. Took a couple of years to show his hardness.

There is no way I'd be giving up on Nathan. He still has to mature both physically and mentally. Once he does I reckon you've got a champ on your hands.

The only reason he had only played 6 games at that age (for the Hawks) was because he didn't turn up to training most of the time and Alan Jeans at the time wouldn't stand for it. SNR had more talent than his older brothers Graham and Kevin... just had a lot of attitude.. and ended up getting the boot from Jeans. Nath and his dad are similar in the way that they don't like the spotlight... but they just want to play footy without the responsibilities attached.
Its got me how Geelong managed to get SNR to turn up to training...

I think Nathan Ablett is very skilled but would be best as a full foward, he just doesnt have the agility of a CHF. However more games into him is good, better than wasting them on Kingsley.

NA probably has one or two things he needs to work on, but the boy's not even 21 yet so I would definitely give him at least two more years.

He and a few others (Hawkins, Varcoe, Gamble, Blake, Stokes, Prismall) might get a few games in 2007, but are not going to be world beaters. However, if they develop like we hope they will, then 2008-9 is looking awesome ...

The premiership window is close to opening ...

I jus think right now out of our players at FF that NAB and Otto are the only two who can pull it off regulary. Having said that Otto doesnt belong at FF. He needs to play forward, as a bloke to stand up when our usual FF cant. When the FF is struggling Otto will kick 4. Sometimes he will kick that anyway. Nathan is the only player that looks like he can play footy. The others look like athletic sort of dudes, some big blokes, guys that can run and catch. Not guys that can stamp their mark on a game, guys with the ability to put someone in their place.

NAB might not either. But in 1 game he did. And in a couple I thought it was more inexperience and the ability to quiet pull it off just yet. I think he can, I ****ing hope so. Give him a ****ing go.

There is no other FF at our club except KK. We cant do it with Kent.

Okay maybe we can, but it is like pushing **** up hill.

I hate ****

looks like he went alright today? Did he play in the midfield?

And so it was that the match did not truly start till after half-time. A bake from Mark Thompson fired the Cats and their midfield, led by Gary and Nathan Ablett, Cameron Ling and Bartel, started to run. In contrast, Melbourne, which had had winners in the likes of Cameron Bruce, Travis Johnstone, Daniel Bell, James McDonald and Brad Green, became stagnant and indecisive.
