This is really tough because there are some really good ones.

...But I would pick:

Chicago v Detroit

I absolutely loved when these 2 teams played. Detroit were the Bad Boys with their physical defence. Chicago were a young team brimming with talent but lacked experience.

Every time Chicago made the playoffs they always had to face the Pistons... and every time the Pistons would defeat the Bulls.

Detroit had Isaiah Thomas (the best little dude ever!) and Joe Dumars, Bill Laimbeer (most hated NBA player), Dennis Rodman, James "Budda' Edwards, Vinnie Johnson, Mark Aguirre, John Salley, all very talented players. Their coach Chuck Daly was one of the NBA's best coach and one of my favourite coaches as well.

This rivalry was so good because it lasted for like 3-4 yrs, and you could see the progression of Chicago as a basketball team. 1988... 1989.... 1990.... Chicago lost the series, and then come 1991 were Chicago were such a standout side and they went on to win 61 games. They then met the Pistons in the CF and went on to sweep them in style.

So whats everyone's favourite NBA rivalry?

Chicago and Cleveland from 2004 - 2009

;)

As for now, Sacramento and the Lakers are great fun... and as for the Past... Pistons/Bulls was good too.

My favourite at the moment would have to me the Mavs and the Lakers.

Mark Cuban firing shots at Shaq: The foot over the line on foul shooting, Don Nelson wearing the clown nose. They used to wipe the floor with us, until the last time we played them last season. The Mavs were ready to play and gave some cheek back.

In the east, I always enjoy the Miami- New York clashes, they have both slipped since the slugfests in the mid-late 90's but there is always a bit of feeling.

The Lakers, Celtics rivalry is by far the biggest. From the 60's when Boston won 8 straight and 11 in 13 years...I think they faced the Lakers 8 times in the NBA Finals in there 11 championship seasons. Then it went a little dormant but of course sparked back up in the 80's with the Magic v Bird rivalry.

Other great rivalry's though IMO were a plethora of rivalry's during the 90's involving all these teams against each other..Indiana, Chicago, New York and Miami.

New York v Indy
Miami v New York
Chicago v Indy
Chicago v New York

Some great rivalry's in there. Also later in the 90's, Bull v Utah was also very entertaining.

hmmm..

at the present moment... the kings v. lakers is pretty good... lots of talk... bad mouthing..etc... should be set for some fiery encounters...

tho, it does pale in comparison to the badboys v chicago...
and the recent NY - Miami... sting has gone out of this one, due to changes in rosters/coaches...

c.webber v. vin baker is a good one... tho, its more of a case of bullying... c.webbers comments about the softest PF.. who then ended up in tears..

t-mac v. bobby jackson
shaq v. barkley
kobe v. c.childs
kobe v. reggie miller
jeff van gundy vs. miami heat :P

Lakers vs Celtics for me.

I started watching basketball when this rivalry was hot. Magic, Kareem, Worthy, Scott, Cooper, Nixon and Rambis against Bird, Parish, McHale, Maxwell, DJ and .....Greg Kite.

The commentary was fantastic and really added to the rivalry. Great stuff!

Dont forget Danny Ainge on the Celtics team, strangely enough, he was actually an integral part of the side.

There have been a lot of Great Rivalries in the games History, but there is only one that has really lasted almost the entire history of the League. Lakers V Celtics. On 10 occassions these Franchises have met each other in the finals, and although the results are a little lopsided (8-2 to Boston including 7-0 during Russell's reign) it is still the league's number 1 drawcard.

Other Great Rivalries include:

Minneapolis Lakers V Rochester Royals.
Funnily enough this ones has been reignited in recent years with the Kings becoming a force in the West again. But in the late forties and early fifties these were two top teams in the league, unfortunately, like now, they were in the same conference.

Boston Celtics V St. Louis Hawks.
In the late fifties these two powerhouses played in four finals in five years. Unfortunately for the Hawks, the Celtics dominated winning 3 championships, but the year Pettit was at his peak (1957-58), not even Bill Russell could contain him.

Lakers and 76'ers (Nationals).
Outside of the Celtics/Lakers rivalties, this is second most successful rivalry having played each other in 6 finals starting in 1949-50. Lakers hold the upperhand (thank God) 5-1, but some of the most memorable games have been played between these two.

Lakers V Knicks.
This is big one for obvios reasons, but the they have played 5 finals against each other as well. It peaked in the early Seventies, but it's one of the games to watch during the season.

Celtics V Knicks.
The biggest rivalry in the East having played Conference Finals or Semi-Finals against each other on 15 occassions. Always the first games to sell-out at either stadium.

Arrgh! I knew that I was forgetting someone from the Celts. He was so young and looked liked he was going to cry. Great competitor though.

And Wilkes and McAdoo for the Lakers. 2 more All-Stars that played for the Lakers in the early eighties that everybody seems to forget about.
I loved these games so much growing up, that the Celtics were my second team and Kevin McHale my favourite Celtic. I used to wish the Lakers and Celtics would playoff in the finals every year.

Bulls and Pistons are only a new rivalry, the ones I mentioned have all been going on for around 50 years. In fact the Pistons greatest rivals would be the Lakers. Fort Wayne and Minneapolis had many great battles in the late forties and early fifties. Fort Wayne were very good in those days, but found themselves in the same conference as Minneapolis and Rochester. And St. Louis were in that Conference too. Talk about tough.
