Port have plenty of salary cap available for NWM. Remember they had big offers for Lukosius (~$800K), Perryman (~$800K) and Cummings (~$500K) this off season. They only got 1 of those 3, implying the remaining ~$1.3 mil is still available. And they lost Houston as well (~$800K). That gives Port ~$2.1 mil available. Contract extensions of existing players will chew that up. But there's plenty of money to offer NWM. I would say he's more likely to nominate Port rather than SA itself given his family and community links.

If you send all Sandringham origin players back to us then it’s a deal

Didn't Cornes say Houston left because he wanted to renegotiate his long term contract as he wasn't on that much??? Likely because of the offer for Perryman he choose to leave and given you missed out on Perryman then this salary cap was used to get Lukosius or Cummings (interest was late only after Perryman request trade) but not both.

No it wasn't. Firstly, Houston wanted to leave for his girlfriend.

Port were planning to sign Perryman on the wing to replace Duursma who left the previous off-season as Port do not have an established winger.

Port were chasing Lukosius for a long time. Since he was dropped early in the season by Hardwick. And the deal with him was not subject to Perryman and/ or Cummings not accepting. Port were on the record stating they had the cap to get all 3 players and keep Houston, which was their preference. This was due to the age profile of the list, younger than the Hawks and the lack of depth hence the amount of salary cap available.

Also, Cummings signed with Adelaide before Perryman made up his decision to go to the Pies. Source: https://www.afl.com.au/news/1230302...y-free-agent-isaac-cumming-picks-his-new-home

The salery cap has increased by 2 million in 2025, and another 500k in 2026.
There's enough room in the cap increases alone.
Put on top of that the retirement of Boak, and possibly losing Butters and or Bergman next year as well.

It was reported that Nicks met with Lukosius mid season and Rozee said only late in the season that he will try to convince Lukosius to join Port Power. Cummings was always the Crows target and Perryman was always Port Power's as reported by the media and then interest of Cummings from Port Power was reported late in the FA period by the media. The following is what Cornes mentioned about Houston's contract which does line-up if he was aware mid season that Port Power was chasing Perryman with an offer of $800-850K.

Probably longer. I would be surprised if both clubs hadn't been madly keen on Luko since the 2018 draft, as we both probably are with any South Australian first round draftee.

Apparently crows have a big offer in front of him
If he leaves it won’t be for money as st Kildas salary cap space would allow them to outbid pretty much every other clubs , but if Adelaide have as strong a season as they look like having similar to Hawthorn last year that’s what would be attractive

Port might have made offers to all those players but I guarantee they wouldn’t have had space to bring in all three in , apparently Houston was on a pretty average dollar contract if they keep butters they would definitely need to make moves to fit nwm

Port will rebuild under Carr, not sure its that enticing for NWM.

Adelaide and Port going in different directions on the ladder.

Port will probably be okay with Butters leaving to speed up their rebuild.

Butters dogs bound.

Would be a big call trading out of the first round three years in a row
Your recruiters would want to nail it that's for sure. Not saying it would happen but an emerging team, or team in need might consider it to get a KPP like Darcy. I think the team would need to be in the premiership window.
