Nathan didn't play on Glass when he was on fire. He kicked 4 on Hunter then Hunter was moved. Glass went onto him and he added another from a free kick. He was then unsighted for the rest of the day. It was a great performance, but Glass kept him quiet after he did the damage on Hunter in the 1st quarter.

The kid will be a star though!

lol Thanks for correcting me forgot that it was Hunter.

Anyways i still cant believe Ryan Gamble's leap in London it was blo*dy massive

I thought it was Brett Jones. Story later that Geelong didn't rate Jones and thought Ablett would do ok on him.

I am a believer in sites like this because its all about the airing of opinions but its amazes me sometimes how quick on the trigger some of us are. We can make judgements on certain players like ; Get rid of Varcoe he is crap , West is useless etc., I suppose anyone on the list is open to observation especially if you have a surname like Ablett and there has been plenty of observations on Nathan , no doubt.

He never wanted player for us in the first place , so he must lack passion. He looks lethargic so surely he is disinterested. He’s too slow , does he train? He is just one big public relations exercise and is a waste of space.

These and others are the type of thoughts I’ve seen posted on BigF about Nathan which is too my eyes just so wrong. When I saw him for the first time one could see immediately here was a kid that had something. Greener than a Muppet but he had talent. An Ablett , yes but different to his brother and different to his dad. It was like third instalment of a story and one could see Ablett Mark3 was going to take more time than the other two , he presented just so much rawer than I ever saw either Gary.

The first time I saw Gary Snr was down at Anglesea in a pre-season game his first year at the Cats , what was it , 84 I think. He had already played games for Hawthorn , he was 22’ish and he had several seasons of footy against men in him. It wasn’t that he could play the level at the Hawks it was just the displine of the Hawthorn Machine that he wasn’t ready for. So , when he hit out against the VFL players in the preseason game he was making most of the boys look flat footed and really earn their kicks. He was ready to play.

Gary Jr was taken young and one might think he would need time to play , most at the club were thinking that but he had lived his life with the burden of his fathers name , he played footy with the type expectation on him , stayed in the system when others thought he was only on the Falcons list because eof his name ( a bit like Couch now). When he finally got to Geelong he was very ready and played the first game.

Nathan is a different man to his brother or father. He was always going to need time , for a start he has a body that’s bigger than either of the GA’s. All big guys deserve a bit of time , he at least deserves the time that other talls drafted would get.(probably something to keep in mind for Tommy H) but comparing him to the other talls on our list there is little doubt he deserves the time his body and mind craves. There can be no doubt now of his talent, a no hoper doesn’t kick 55M goals against the wind , they don’t take quality pack marks and they don’t see the game the way he does.

To talk after his BOG in the VFL final was a huge leap forward IMO , he looked like he thought he belonged and to me that signals the end of the beginning and the start of the next exciting phase in his and our football journey

It was B.Jones, then wannabe toughman Hunter and then Glass.
And that was only the first qtr.
doesnt really matter i dont think, it was an unreal effort from such a young, raw player... to kick 5 against any AFL team in ur first season is an outstanding effort, and especially against a top 2 side... unfortunately i missd the game but the highlights wer a pleasure to watch :D
