Nathan has publically stated that he will be weighing up options as to whether he will become a senior assistant coach in 2010.

Then there's Nathan Buckley.
The Collingwood champ will decide midway through next year where his future lies and at which club.
Before Campbell's appointment – and perhaps even Sheedy's – Richmond and Buckley wasn't an entirely ridiculous union.
Buckley will be offered a position at Collingwood by Eddie McGuire – as senior or assistant coach – but several other coaches are also coming out of contract.
They are at the Western Bulldogs, St Kilda, maybe the Kangaroos, Port Adelaide and, of course, the Tigers.
He will go somewhere, Bucks, and if he rails against Collingwood in preference for a new frontier, pity the club that ignores him.

.... would you want us to get Bucks in as a coach?

The Collingwood issue aside, he is insightful with his commentary on 7 and he obviously is held in high regard given his knowledge and achievements in the game.

The Kids would love him.

Ratts, Riley, Harvey, Lappin, Buckley, Monty !

I'd take him in a heartbeat, I heard he was doing coaching courses even years ago while he was playing. Would love to have him.

Really for his own development he should spend a couple of years at another club (IE Like Worsfold did at Carlton, before retuning to the Eagles as senior coach)

Frankly I don't want him at Carlton, cause he seems like such a sterile and boring bloke (can't believe he had a go at Fev for showing some good sportsmanship after the St.Kilda game) but he would be ideal at a club like Footscray or Richmond.

I don't think he's boring at all he seems quite funny when he gets going, and I think he had every right to have a dig at Fev, not quite 'good sportsmanship'. That's just what we need a respected former player to get the young kids in the right direction.

I would love to have him at carlton. I hated him when he was on the footy show (boring), but his good on channel 7, really spot on with his special comments IMO. He would beat the stupid out of fevola (ratts is too scared to), he would add professonalism to the club (which would go fantasically with our new facillities). But could he handle being the second banana to ratts?

Then lets hope Buckley turns out as well as Tony Shaw who wasn't allowed to do an apprenticeship under Parkin at another club. ;)

Given how much Eddie actually adores Bucks, I really believe that he will take up a coaching job at Collingwood next year, and will be MM's successor at some stage.

I reckon Bucks is smart enough to know that he should step away fromt he club and see the inside of another club before going back to the Pies.

I could actually see Bucks and Eddie clashing if the reports you here about the leadership groups etc (i.e. not having much of a say) is to be believed. I would think a lot would need to change.

As for whether I'd have him, sure, why not. The more ideas from different areas the better, especially when they group and the game plan are evolving so much.

No thanks! I think he's a self centred twat. He played that way and he'll coach that way. Don't want him!

Just have a look at the names he has imposed on those two innocent children. How more self centred can you be than to let your sons go through life named after a plane and a playing card?!

Yep.

Would love to have him at Carlton. While there's more to coaching than your ability as a commentator, I was very impressed with the insight he provided while commentating for 7. Knows his footy, comes of as a bit of a perfectionist and has no issue getting his point across.

I think he'd make a very good senior coach - could prove to be quite handy for a year or two as an assistance to Ratts.

The Collingwood issue aside, he is insightful with his commentary on 7 and he obviously is held in high regard given his knowledge and achievements in the game.

He may be very insightful when explaining what has happened in a game, but when it comes to predicting what will happen he has a 100% strike record of getting it wrong.

I'd like a coach to be able to not only predict how a game will play out accurately, but be able to implement strategies to influence and affect it.

Sure, he may bring a bit to the table, but we all know it'll only be a year or two before he goes back to the enemy, why let Collingwood have such intimate knowledge of this team of ours that will take us to flags 17 and beyond?

Right now we are their bogey side, nothing to be gained from changing anything between our two clubs for now, let him use some other club to practice on.

Besides, we already have enough coaches with little or no coaching experience at other clubs, if anything we need to bring on another experienced coach.

And finally, we want to bring on board greats of the game who know what it takes to shine on the greatest stage of all, not simply hunch over and cry!

(Before you cite Harvs, I'll be overjoyed for him when Carlton finally deliver him the success he never achieved at St Kilda, because he's not the sort of bloke to leave a club to chase finals success only to lose 2 consecutive grand finals to the club he walked out on .)

Maybe a bit harsh there BY.
He's better at predicting moves that Timmy.......who spends the whole game looking just out of the camera vision to tell you who the next pass will go to......that anyone at the ground would be able to see. Genius.

Voss even struggled to comment on what had happenned with any accuracy let alone predicting the way things would unfold.

This is a good point.

Bugger him.:thumbsd:

Shaking hands after the game after the game is good sportsmanship...dry humping Leigh Montagna's leg was well out of order, and Bucks was right to pull him up on it.

+1.

Meh the thign is as well, I honestly believe Buckley is one of the most arrogant (not in the good way like Wayne Carey) players to play in the last 20 years, the man has a gigantic ego, and his disgusting behaviour after the 2002 GF (where he tossed off his norm smith medal after getting it) shows the type of qualities this man has...

A man who couldn't hack it in tough times in Brisbane after one measly season, and screwed them in the back big time and went to Collingwood IMHO for a massive pay check (if he wanted to play in a flag so badly, he should have gone to North Melbourne)

Buckley's nickname is Figjam and righly so ...

Carey's arrogance = good?

The only disgusting behaviour it led him to 'do' was Stevens' wife...

Yeah, but **** he's good...just ask him.
