I thought this might be the best place to ask as I've failed to find this anywhere.

I'm looking for Buckley's long kick season stats from 1993-2007.

Even better if there are competition long kick stats during those years, or better again all-time long kicking stats for a season and where any of Buckley's seasons fit on there would be of great interest.

If anyone who has a loose season of long kick stats here/there or can help me out on this one it would be much appreciated.

Overall it's a topic of interest to me because of the sheer number of long kicks Nathan had during his playing days. It felt like every play would go through Nathan through necessity, carrying the team like no one individual has ever had to, and it is remarkable in a lower disposal era relative compared to today that Buckley had all the touches he had, often even when tagged when he wasn't getting cheap ones and cheap receives. It was a lot of kicks where he'd go long and hit the target at an extremely high efficiency. And I recall reading in the papers during that time that Buckley was always leading or near the top throughout that period for long kicks.

I view this as the defining argument as to why Nathan was greater than Voss, Hird or anyone he played against. So any such stats in any who was greater debates would also no doubt come in handy for the casual or hardcore Pies fan.

Never knew such stats were kept, so they would be great to see.

Great post.

My workmates a StKilda man.
(Yes I went into work on Sunday 2010, even though we were closed, and put the Collingwood logo on his computer as desktop image. I’m IT, he’s sales so had no idea how to remove it!)
Today we were talking footy with another team member and he bought up the fact that Buckley was the best kick he had ever seen.
I felt proud.

Obviously never saw Shane O’Bree!

Are you trying to antagonise Maggie5? Duck for cover!
No. If I was going to do that I would’ve said something about Chris Bryan being a better ruckman than Jarrod Witts ;)

Yep great memories of the countless moments of Bucks hitting blokes on a lead lace out from over 50mtrs away on the run...

Countless memories of Ben Kinnear and co fumbling said kicks too.

I'd be surprised if this stat existed in Buckley's era and may not even now.

When did champion data start?

No. If I was going to do that I would’ve said something about Chris Bryan being a better ruckman than Jarrod Witts ;)
Isn’t Chris Bryan the who did some radio sits for SEN end last year?
Was very good I thought

I’m based in London so unfortunately wouldn’t have a clue.

Seemed a likeable enough bloke. Side by Side made for good reading when it came to discussing his season in 2009.

Buckley as good a long kick to position as I can recall.

Only Peter Daicos is the same discussion when talking elite kicks at Collingwood.

Even Barry price.

He is the greatest kick of all time in my opinion, could do short long anything.

Iacobucci stiff.

My favourite Pie and very underrated as he was heart and soul type of bloke was Ben Johnson.

Rocca honourable mention when he played well we usually won.

Buckley?

Daicos?

Or Price?

I’d agree Buckley as good a kick as I can ever recall, just elite.

Still hits them lace out in the dress shoes pre game.

Privileged enough to have seen both, I'd say Daics was the better shot for goal whilst Buckley's kicks travelled faster. Both were sublime and so much better than anyone we have today. Didac was probably our last great kick.

Best Collingwood player I ever saw.

Buckley
Swan
Didak
These are the fantastic discussions.

My best few:

Buckley, Daicos, Thompson, Carman, Pendlebury, Swan and I just remember Peter McKenna.

Still the best player I've seen play the game.

Have to ask again......
We have a young guy at work who plays for our favourite local club.
When me and my workmate bought up Buckley’s elite kicking, it was him who stated that Buckley invented a kicking test for the draft camp.
So....why the hell are the majority of our player list poor kicks?
We have maybe the best long distance kick in the history of the game. We have the inventor of the draft kicking test.
What the F is going on?
