No, no, no. If he was fit to play this week, he should have played in a tough interstate game we were highly unlikely to win, or in a VFL practice match that we won by 147 points anyway.

I'm really happy with the approach we're taking here. Seems very sensible. There is absolutely no rush to get Freeman in right now. Give him time to get the body right. If posters have seen him training at full tilt then I see no reason but to believe them.

So can we stop with the conspiracy bullshit and just get behind Freeman and the club on this? You'll feel better about it when he does debut.

He spoke to Greg Williams daughter and she said

Gone
Steak knives on the Bruce trade apparently. I heard Tom Lee put the deal together.

We have managed Roo after some serious injuries, Gilbert is back out on the park after long term injury issues, we got Brendon Goddard back out their and still playing at an elite level after a serious injury. Let's be honest, we have a pretty good track record the last decade or so with managing guys with injuries.

Obviously each case is different and each individual injury has different levels of risk etc. but it seems when it's possible to get guys back to consistent football after serious injuries we get it done most of the time. I'm prepared to back the medical and fitness staff at our club another time.

People need to relax; whenever soft tissue like muscle has healed, the resulting scar tissue will always make it more susceptible to re-injury. Given that there have already been repeat incidents, it is more than acceptable for the club to be highly conservative with Freeman; why try to shave a few weeks off the recovery period when there's no necessity, and it could result in a several month layoff, in the event of re-injury, as well as making him even more likely to do it again in the future.

As for questioning why he can train yet not play; athletes will almost always injure themselves in game scenarios, rather than training; even if that training is full load. This is simply because of reactionary explosive movements in game day scenarios are the most likely to cause an injury, so holding Freeman back from such a risk for as long as possible is more than acceptable, especially since his game is based on said explosiveness.

I'll bet my bottom dollar that once Nathan does make it back into any starting lineup that they manage his time on ground closely, just to make sure that he builds his match fitness, and is less likely to re-injure himself when heavily fatigued. So we can look forward to the whinging that will flow on from that. And if (god forbid) we should eventually find out he has a shoulder like Jeremy McGovern  well this thread will progress at 50 pages a day I think.

Wasn't Collingwood rushing him in to play when he said his hamstring wasn't right the reason he badly hurt it early last season? Why should we repeat their mistakes? Some people are so impatient, the club clearly has a long term management plan for him to ensure he has the best chance at an AFL career as possible. I'd rather him be not playing because we're trying to get it right than because we rushed him in and he does his hammy again and is back to square one.

But the word is his hammies are perfect.
