Holy heck 46 touches in three quarters. No matter the level that's impressively

I really shouldn't have read the Freeman thread on the Pies board. One Pie said "I hope he breaks down again." That's a special kind of evil for someone to hope that on a young kid. Then there's the hypocrisy that they poached Aish & Treloar amongst others...FMD. Saying that, there are some nice comments from some Pies supporters there.

Probably knows nothing about football and only follows Collingwood because their latest boyfriend does.

I think you just need to give it time. A lot of us were pretty sore at cripps for a season or two but now he's just another irrelevant opposition player. Most are happy to see tom lynch playing well too, although circumstances were slightly different.

In time they will look at Freeman as a way to get aish (I think), the same way we can say we got Newnes out of lynch leaving.

Promising start for Freeman, wonder how long he'll stay in the dev squad.

I don't think the pick was unders. He hasn't played for over 2 years now. He still hasn't played a senior game or a seconds game for the Saints. And no player is going to come out and say they left for money. Its just the way it is. And did he really bag the pies? I cant remember that.
It was reported (perhaps just by people in the know on our board) that Freeman wasn't happy with how he was managed by our medical department. In terms of money, you're right nobody says it as a reason for changing clubs. Plenty of people leave jobs for money though, so I don't see why AFL is any different.

So Aish is different then?

He bullshitted Brisbane but that doesn't seem to count because he went to Collingwood.

Double standards maybe?
The main difference with Aish is the trade and what price was paid. We gave up 2x second round picks, downgraded another second round pick and downgraded a third round pick. (In: Aish, pick 34 + 53 ~ Out: 26, 28, 47 + a 2016 second-round pick)

Using the bidding system points before factoring in your 2nd round pick our part of the Aish trade leaves 697 points remaining. The end result will likely be about 150 to 300 points greater than pick 7 depending on where you guys finish this year. Basically in terms of points we paid pick 7 plus 3rd/4th round pick.

Conversely before factoring in your 2nd round pick the Freeman trade leaves 1391 points remaining, which will likely be around 550 to 700 points less than pick 10. Basically you paid a 2nd round pick less than where Freeman was drafted.

The main reason I think this deal was unders is the guaranteed contract offered, St Kilda obviously felt they could manage the injury risk.

With that in mind I reckon a second and third rounder with 68 going your way would have been fairer and still in your favour by around 200 to 350 points (a 3rd round pick less than where Freeman was drafted).

Take your point however pick 10 that you originally selected Freeman with had no relevance to his current worth when we traded for him after not playing for 2 years and a huge injury cloud hanging over him.

You aren't factoring in 2 years out of the game.

I think that was ultimately the clubs view as we couldn't have got the Aish trade done without the 2nd round pick for Freeman. Why kick up a stink for the sake of a 3rd round pick, lose Freeman for nothing and be left with no ability to bring Aish in.

Looking at our overall trade position we took unders or paid overs by a fraction for most of our deals, but unless everything fell our way none would have made a significant difference to the final outcome.

Bingo. Freeman was always & remains a much higher risk than Aish.

Didn't you see a bit of Freeman for Sandy when he was younger?

Probably about 10 games. Rated him the best of their kids but I found out why I'm not a recruiter when Kelly and Salam went before him. Loved his outside run. Doesn't have Jacks running style, no one has apart from Swan, but plays like him.

It does and it doesn't, if Freeman had of been drafted at 30 St Kilda wouldn't have been offering a second round pick. Anyways let's move on Freeman's wearing a St Kilda jumper and you guys seem happy with his recent hit out and I'm happy with the blokes we bought in.

Did Freeman have his pace back or was his performance due to the slower standard?

Player worth is so subjective isn't it. If he'd been playing those 2 years like Ablett he'd have been worth 2 first rounders. We've all had players with potential that never managed a game too.

Anyhoo, good luck to Freezer and Aish and may they provide enjoyment for us all for years. Good luck with the rest of the season.

Edit: Suspect Freezers talent is a fair way above Sandy reserves so hard to judge. He did play 3/4 without shredding a hammy though. Fingers crossed.

I'm just putting this pic in, to stop a naked Dane Swan coming up in my Tapatalk thread feed.

Thanks.

We (the Saints) did a medical on Freeman before trading for him. The evaluation came back that if the club did X,Y,Z Freeman would return to AFL football and have a sustained career. Once Collingwood heard of the medical report (and found out that they could fix Freezers hammies with other methods) they went and offered him a bigger contract over four years. We offered Freeman less money on a 3 year deal and he still took it. Says a lot about the young kid and probably a lot more about how poorly Collingwood treated him.

I'm glad that he had a great game yesterday and I've got real faith the club can get him right. We have a knack for bringing in players from other clubs and turning them into real quality. Mav Weller, Dylan Roberton, Shane Savage, Tom Hickey, Billy Longer, Sean Dempster, Josh Bruce just to name a few. We've been really strong in that space and if Freezer puts in the work (which it looks like he's definitely doing) he'll be a 200 game player for us. Remember he's only 20.
