Freeman on the other hand even with a nice pre-season, 2 years out without playing will find it lucky to play a meaningful season next year. Pay $300K a year for a kid who will spend most of his time in the VFL next year? Not worth the risk.

This will be very interesting - Freeman has thoroughly burnt every one of his bridges at Pieland, apparently the hierarchy is incredibly disappointed and rightfully so. To say he's left on bad terms is an understatement - there hasn't been a player walking out on the club on worse terms in the last twenty years.

As such, Collingwood aren't really in the right mood to do good by him, and the club really couldn't care less where he ends up. They'll turf him wherever the best offer comes from with about as much regard for Freeman's wishes as Freeman himself has shown to the club.

In short - it's entirely possible it won't be the Saints, because he's definitely not worth pick 5, and plenty of others will offer more than a second rounder. And it's abundantly clear the club couldn't give two shits where Nathan wants to play his football.

It was clear from Balmey's comments the other day that he was gone and the club wasn't happy with his decision.

If you were worried about the longevity of your career and someone offered you double the money your current employer was, would you take it and run?

When players opinions of themselves are higher than they are worth, and someone else out there is willing to pay that higher amount, you can talk all you want but nothing will happen.

They must have done something right to be able to convince Taylor Adams last year and Treloar this year to come to the club in face of strong opposition.

This always comes up and is complete nonsense because players have to agree to any trade. Just as GWS can't just decide to send Treloar to Richmond, we can't just decide to send Freeman wherever we want.

Thats right, but its a rule that has to change. A player can hold a club to ransom, but not the other way around. Its not right and the rule should have come in when free agency first started.

So Freeman and Pick 8 for Treloar. Two first rounders effectively. Given we had to finish outside the 8 two years in row to obtain those two first rounders its not a win. Treloar is more of a necessity than a luxury coming to us now.
