I would argue that players relatively stay out of this stuff and go on the advice of their managers. Especially 20 year old kids preparing for their first major contract.

Its standard player management tactics....go to the media to put speculation of other clubs circling to bump up the price

That's the managers job and unfortunately that's the AFL market now and has been for a while. Will only get worse with unknown and average players testing the market to see what desperate clubs need them to fill a hole.

Which other kids from the 2013 draft have you seen so many media articles about their contract? Seems like 99% of them are about Schareberg and Freeman with their managers publicly stating how "rival clubs are circling". I mean, seriously, they either need to tell their managers to pull their heads in or they do, because playing these things out in the media helps no one.

Shows the type of bloke you are, if your willing to leave the club that have given you a chance at AFL and have looked after you though your injuries, and wants to leave for $$$, even when you have not played a single afl game

I think some people are jumping the gun here! I understand that some are concerned by the prospect of losing Scharenberg and Freeman but this is the way the competition functions now.

It's becoming more like English football where these rumours become more frequent as time goes on. I'm not going to make further comments on Scharenberg or Freeman's contractual situation until it's announced one way or another that they're re-signing or leaving the club.

So at this present time I'm going to assume they're a part of our future plans until this is proven otherwise.

Sorry to intrude guys.

I don't see Freeman (or Scharenberg) leaving the Pies but IF he did, what would you guys want/thinks fair for him?

As a Saints fan, I would probably give up 2015 + 2016 3rd rounders for him and if that didn't get it done I'd say thanks but no thanks. Unfortunately for you guys he has zero currency despite being pick 10 just two years ago due to his rotten hammys and being OOC.

I've also heard that he's only being offered a one year deal by the Pies but wants two years, hence the potential for him to leave. Any truth to that?

Tom Boyd has had a few articles...as has aish.

The thing about shaz and freeman is they have played so little footy and are yet to sign...plus they play for collingwood.

The story is intriguing. I honestly cant price them. Its a risk keeping them and a risk letting them go. But i think you have to back your talent and back your recruiting.

Exactly, that's why it won't happen. He's worth pretty much nothing but it was only two years ago that you spent pick 10 on him. I wouldn't give up our second rounder for him.

Anything less than pick 20 and he can go and get stuffed. Will wait until we get some proper info before starting a meltdown though.
