Article was a nothing piece as others have mentioned. St Kilda have stated they would be interested if contract not signed in a couple of weeks which indicates to me they think he is going nowhere and that he will be signed up.

My guess on Freeman's contract is there may be some difference between what Freeman wants as a base and what we have offered. Having missed two years we have probably low-balled the base a little and given him performance based incentives.

Once we find the middle ground on Scharenberg (it may be a similar issue with base contract amount), the left over change will be added to Freeman's deal and we will all move on to pre-season, or back to Treloar, Aish and Kreuzer issues.

I can't see a guy who seems to bob up next to Pendles in photos all the time leaving....
I think that you may be on the wrong forum, we aren't suppose to have common sense around here :P :thumbsu:

The connection to the Saints is tenuous. Freeman supported them as a kid and his family is from Dingley so I think the paper assumed this would be his club of preference.

On performance matters: Cripps struggled in his first few games last year. He looked slow and looked like he wasn't up to speed. He then broke his leg and spent the majority in the VFL. Ben Lennon struggled last year in his senior games and only really came on midway through this year. Some Tiger posters were happy to throw his name up as trade bait earlier in the year.

I think this suggests that a draftee will only be able to demonstrate his worth if given a clear run and time to adjust to the speed of AFL. This applies to both Freeman and Scharenberg. If they both stay, they still need at least half a season next year at senior level before they will feel totally comfortable in their body and game (Freeman probably more so). And a full preseason would also help.

I think that people jump on players way to quickly and we really need to judge players on at least 5 years of exposed football. if people judged ablett jnr in his first 3 years he probably would have been delisted.
back on topic I don't believe that Freeman will go anywhere with that said if he does I dare say that pick will be used on Aish and no harm done.

Sorry forgot to mention if he does what to go to Saints, I think a fair trade deal is McCartin and Billings for Freeman and Sinclair. Might be tempted to go all out and throw in Blair if a second rounder came back our way!:D

now you fit right in :)

That story didn't even say the saints were interested, it said they might be interested.

Smells of a manager trying to bump up his clients contract.

He's been injured with a hamstring for 2yrs. No club is going to offer much more than the base contract

just Listening To SEN and Freemans Manager Paul Connors just said that he was at Collingwood yesterday and negotiating. so that tells me that his not unhappy with the club as some have eluded to, and it's purely just $$$. and perhaps contract length

That hole article read as a fluff piece designed to increase his price. Id be pretty certain he was staying. Obviously someone would be interested if a deal can't be struck, but the $$ figure won't be much different anywhere, most likely trying to get an extra 50k and maybe some performance cues lowered.

I also heard the interview and the panel thought that Paul Connors answers suggested that Freeman may not be at Collingwood next season.

And that was my impression too. No better than 50/50 is my gut feeling.

If he wants out then I hope he performs as well for his next club as he has for the Pies.

Smells more like a journo has called up the Saints knowing that Freeman grew up a St Kilda supporter and asked them if they'd be interested in Freeman. Response was 'yeah we'd have a look at him if he decides not to re-sign with the pies I guess'.

Bigfooty translation:

St Kilda are heavily courting Freeman and are offering him eleventy million dollars over 8 years, and will give us a third rounder for him.

I would have thought our list was in dire need for some pace through the middle. Hence Freeman was every bit needed as much as an extra tall.

Taking my time machine back to 2013 it was size through the middle and on the flanksthat we needed, IMO.

At that point we had all of Elliott, Sinclair, Dwyer, Martin, Kennedy, JT and Blair, sub 180cm, as either regulars or on the fringes hence why the consensus (on here anyway) was that we pulled the right reign in Shaz v Aish.

Acres>Cripps was my feel at 10, but the selection of Freeman has since felt off because he was a freak athlete that never took full toll of those traits moving through the underage system.

I guess at the end of the day I'll back the club in on this one and if cutting our losses is the best outcome then so be it.

Edit: that group of smalls contributed 121 matches in 2013 with Krak as well. In 2015 that figure dropped to 56 with Blair and Elliott contributing 40.

Lol what is with these 2 young kids scharenberg and freeman obviously as a loving collingwood supporter want these two to stay and have a career at the pies but really getting you're manager to come and talk about contracts and publicly wanting more money the two of them have played 6 games between them in 2 years out of a possible on 46 and freeman not even one so worry about getting on the bloody field before u keep asking for more money sorry a bit of frustration with these younger players haha

Out of curiosity where did you get the 6 and 46 game amounts from? It's a 22 match home and away season plus Shaz played just 4 in 2015.

This isnt intended to ridicule him or anything, but this must be an incredibly rare photo. Wonder how many possessions he got in that NAB game before he did his hammy

My bet is the player managers are trying to squeeze more money out of the club, knowing we have room in the cap and we've been waving our cheque book to Kreuzer, Treloar etc.

Player manager comes out and threatens his player might walk an attempt to pressure the club to pay more.

But really, what's Freeman's currency? Injury-ridden, hasn't played a game ... his manager is overstating the player's value.

The club has been threatened by managers before (see Cloke, Toovey), I expect them to work out a deal in the end as they have done previously.

Scharenberg might be another matter as it could be his own desire to return home, thus not only a question of money.

Freeman has no currency currently. We'd struggle to get a second round pick. Im not a huge believer in Freeman at the moment, for mine just seems to be an impressive athlete. But still, we would of bought a Porsche but sold for a Datson if he leaves.

He's has elite endurance and elite top end speed (the later pending full hammy recovery). That will be very valuable with reduced rotations.

But really, what other club is going to pay so much more, to outbid our offer, for a very high draft pick from 2 years ago, that hasn't played a game yet.

Forget the trade value, for him to leave this other club will have to pay him a large salary for him to consider that club, otherwise he's no better off. He's also stated he wants to stay.

Should have taken Cripps. Take ur dodgy hamstrings and ur good preseason running elsewhere. We'll use the pick to get Aish.

We could taken quite a few players. Bit silly saying who we should of taken

Freeman has zero currency, we have got zero return on investment over 2 seasons -with what must be seen as only a slim chance of getting any real ROI at all on him.

Nothing against the kid and shame about the injuries and all but, I'd even consider we cut him with a view to picking him up as a rookie.

With Pendles, Swanny for one more, Levi, Adams, Treloar, Crisp, Sidebottom, De Goey and throw in a few more he's got to be at very long odds to ever make it at Collingwood now.

According to Jay Clark, Paul Connors (Freeman's manager) has confirmed the Herald Sun's story that St Kilda are circling, but JC thinks Freeman will stay. He tweeted this about 20 minutes ago.
