Knowledgeable people can be wrong, especially when guessing from the outside. Research on what? What do you know of my background? There is a thing or two you need to learn about the Royal Sampler before you ridicule his medical knowledge! Do your research.
I stopped watching more recently than you. Agassi was great to watch, after him I lost interest.I enjoyed that sort of tennis. Haven't watched tennis since McEnroe and Jimmy Connors' playing days.

I wasn't expecting Young to get a game for us again unless we have massive injury issues, even more so than now
Feel sorry for Nathan. Was looking forward to him playing. The thing I remember from his 1 qtr of NAB cup footy last year was his speed. Exactly what we need someone like him sprinting away from a stoppage
I liked the friction and abuse but didn't care so much for the tennis.I stopped watching more recently than you. Agassi was great to watch, after him I lost interest.
I can't see him ever debuting in the senior team the way things are going.
Best post I've read in quite a while GC, love your work!!!!!Gee this board veers between over the top optimism and chicken little at an alarming rate. For all the cries early in the season that Freeman should just slot into the AFL team immediately without consideration of waiting for him to prove himself with performance are now being balanced out by thecries he is now near career over.
Few facts.
No one here is privy to any of the fitness and medical information on Freeman so speculating on his fitness and medical management is null and void.
He sustained a severe hamstring injury missing a season so was almost always going to take time to be AFL ready. It's not a concern he is yet to debut considering 2014
Exploratory surgery is just that. They will be looking for some scar tissue which may be adherent and plan to debride that or some scar tissue entrapping a nerve and debride that. These are the sorts of things that are likely to be done. Yes it is a set back and a disappointment but it is nothing like career threatening.
If people hadn't been so over the top in their beliefs about how quickly Freeman was likely to get back they would be more accepting about delays. It is the nature of severe injuries that further, more minor clean ups are often needed later. Think of all the minor surgeries that are put off to the post season.
In this case it's a young developing kid and early in the season. The. Clubs docs and surgeon will have made an assessment better to do this now so he an get back to playing later in 2015 and make the season useful rather than carry on further. Not really a biggie.
As for the idea that this represents some sort of mismanagement we cannot say. However surgery is not a panacea for all ills. A great adage I was taught in the past is "1st do no harm". It's not a bad policy to go with. In most situations the conservative line is usually tried 1st. I am sure the staff have been monitoring Freeman's "soreness" since it developed and trying conservative things to settle it. That may not have worked so the surgery card is now being played. These things are no where near as "black and white" as some are imagining.
I suggest we all chill a little, let Freeman get over this set back like many players are required to do, and then give him time to develop in the VFL before we all go chicken little again.
Just because he was called out at no 10 in the draft does not make him immune from needing time to get over major injury and then more time again to develop his craft. He needs time.
Be honest, you overstate things on purpose to try and whip people in a fenzy, don't you?
Can anyone tell me which particular hamstring muscle that he's having issues with?
Well that really just shows where your understanding of football is flawed.I can't see him ever debuting in the senior team the way things are going.
David Wirrapunda would have had 8 to 10 hammy injurues from 16 to 20 years old. Barely played early years and git through it. Body eventually settled in his early 20s.

Ugh that's not exactly a comforting comparison Wirrpanda's body was shot at the age of 29...
FYI
Vocab: 'Debride' (GC's post) - Not a synonym for divorce!
- Debride: To remove dead, contaminated, or adherent tissue and/or foreign material. To debride a wound is to remove all materials that may promote infection and impede healing. This may be done by enzymes (as with proteolytic enzymes), mechanical methods (as in a whirlpool), or sharp debridement (using intruments).

Do you mean like Pavlich?
The fact that GC is a surgeon is neither here nor there. His/Her post resonated with me not because it gave me a clearer insight into the medical predicament Freeman is in. It struck a chord because it was logical....and well constructed logic at that!!!I would give this post 1 million likes if I could.
For those posters that don't know GC is actually a surgeon. He's not some kid behind a keyboard making stuff up for attention.
