Freeman obviously wants out of Pies for whatever reasons (and i personally dont believe it is money). Just a bad fit for both parties.

What makes me more annoyed is that we couldnt see this during his draft screening. We could have opted for somebody else at 10.

The question needs to be asked why the bad character traits that were inferred to in the interview weren't picked up in the draft screening process.

Sometimes adversity brings out the true character of people.

But we didn't. :(:cry::footy::thumbsdown::fire:

I like your avatar. What is it? Or he?

Freeman will forever carry the collective hatred of 10's of 1000's of angry Collingwood supporters on his 'Triple-treat' striped Saint's-back. The weight will drag upon his legs and tear his tender hammies again. Just bide you time, bite your tongue and wait for the 'ping!'.
Thanks it's a selfie.
Yes he's carrying some bad mojo now and he will ping again.. oh yes. there will be pinging

ps.. it's Squidward Tentacles from Spongebob Squarepants. He's a cartoon squid. Good on the clarinet, lives in a submerged tikki statue and reminds me a lot of myself

So you are blaming the club? Surprised by that...

Also based on Bucks' comments it's fairly obvious the Club's inadequate (IMO) offer to Nathan was partly based on us not being completely happy with him.

And given the rumours that the feeling is mutual both parties are clearly doing what's best for them at this stage of the proceedings.
Might be a good idea we all move on, just a thought anyway..
Agree that it's best for all parties to move on under the circumstances.

Can't help but feel Bucks was referring to Naths alleged alcohol consumption during rehab that Scodog10 hinted at a week or so ago.

Ha ha. I like him. I will google for further clarity and understanding. A Mr Squidward Tentacles, you say?

You are right, my point however was in regards to LK and JT doing what they needed to do during the season to make sure they were fit and available to play every game (As far as I know I don't recall these two getting into any sort of trouble during the season), opposed to Freeman who allegedly has not.
For what it's worth I wouldn't take Thomas and Keeffe back.
So according to you and Bucks it's fine to play up during the off season as long as you take your rehabilitation seriously during it? ;)

Nah jokes aside I do understand your take on it but keep going back to the repercussions of actions from the players in question and the fact that one party is totally blameless, at least as far as the relevant authorities are concerned.

This is just ******* ridiculous.

Why is it ridiculous? There was a clear mention of 'issues' raised in the interview and that will these 'issues' will still exist at St. Kilda.

It is the job of a recruiter to identify any character flaws in the draft screening process. Just like a job interview. A major component of a recruiter is the character test, whoever did the character test on Freeman has failed miserably.

Not really.

What is the whole interview process for anyway? It is like hiring for a job. You have to ask the right questions and if you recruit the wrong employee, it is on your head.

Had a listen to Gary Buckernara on Cal's Podcast. He said the main factor he looks at when he interviews a potential draftee is his character. If he has character flaws, he simply doesn't recruit him.

I think I know where the club went wrong. They should have asked Freeman during the draft screening process how he would react to being injured for two years. Hopefully they learn from this obvious mistake and include it for future draftees.

Can you describe a character flaw?

I like you as a poster, but you ask something like "how do you handle adversity and give me an example". Then you ring his junior coaches as references etc.

It is very similar to a job interview imo.

FWIW while obviously not being privy to all his activities I can assure you Nathan isn't different to the vast majority of the kids at his age, especially the ones that don't chose the rocket scientist career path. The parents of a kid that went to school and played with him at Dingley and subsequently introduced Nathan to me told me they were certain he was going to play AFL quite early due to his determination. Take this as a given.

So this why didn't we get the screening right tripe is just that - tripe.

A common question to gauge the professionalism of a player is how have you overcome injuries and dealt with adversity.

I have no doubt that Freeman would have presented very well during his interview and personally I do not hold the club responsible for not being able to foresee his decision to leave. Freeman has been with us for two years and has endured a horror run with injury. During that time his attitude towards Collingwood changed. It may be to do with the environment created by the club or it could be that he does not get along with some of the players. Maybe being in the rehab group for so long has left him isolated. Maybe he has had some personal issues. Maybe it is a combination of many things. It is not simply a case of saying that the club did not pick up on this at the interview stage. Life is far more complicated than that.

Our club must interview at least 20 players a year at least for draft, trading and rookie draft. Surely they know what to ask and how to weed out any problems, especially with a top 10 pick.

If the rumours are true about Freeman' attitude, especially during rehab, we prob did stuff up here. It is a massive if and i am normally a massive club supporter but we have to look at all scenarios.
