I don't agree with this
1. Can you specify what people and culture you refer to? If you are moralizing about off-field behavior or quirky difficult types then you don't know much about the history of successful AFL sides in this respect. Collingwood 2010, West Coast 2005/06, North in the 90's, Carlton 85/86 etc etc... The only culture any AFL club needs to worry about is a winning one.. a winning culture based on absolute team commitment and brotherhood.. however that is achieved. Individual and group dynamics aren't replicateable between different individuals and groups like a McDonalds cheeseburger. The best coaches are always able to work with what they've got and get the best out of them.
2. You are easily pleased and happy to settle for mediocrity. I don't think Eddy will be; nor hopefully will the rest of the board. No real Collingwood supporter should be either!
Mate footy has become so much more professional even more so over the last 5-10 years.

I don't see the Hawks, Cats and swans, 3 of the most successful clubs over the past decade have these 'loose' characters. They have professional organisations with strong leadership. The shit Didak and Shaw got up to wouldn't have been tolerated by the leadership group of these clubs. Malthouse has difference rules for the best players which is totally wrong.

The pies are on the right track.

Hodge drink driving and a player who was fairly stiff not to take Normie home yesterday sinking quite a few during the season while injured (you'll have to trust me on that one) make a mockery of this professionalism is the only way theory.
And that's even ignoring the fact a few of our boys aren't exactly cleanskins up to this day...

So hodgey is what 32 with 4 premierships. Maybe a discretion once in a blue moon over a professional career can be forgiven. We are talking about much younger guys and not just 1 or 2. Anyway, we all have different views on the matter. However, I'm sure Clarko wouldn't have tolerated it if it was one of the younger guys. Geelong didn't seem to have too many issues during their reign. Not the swans.

Obviously u are not going to have a lot of cleanskins, however, when the perceived leaders aren't setting an example, you have no hope.

The Hawks talk about culture, even the tigers are banging on about how they cleaned themselves up and this is the best footy they have played in the last 20 years.

By the way, it wasn't as if Hodgey was out partying having a bender. He was at a house playing poker. How many times have we potentially had a few drinks but thought it wasn't an issue and jumped in the car. A little different to Dids and the shaws having a night out and smashing their car.

I read he had 4 PINTS! Turn it up if you don't know you'll be over after 4 pints.

ok mate. If you think young men are no longer acting like young men when they get the chance... I got 2 words for you.. Keefe and Thomas. It's also very lucky for us that Malthouse did put up with the shit Didak, Shaw and others got up to.. otherwise no flag in 2010. Players being good solid citizens off-field has f#ck all to do with building an onfield winning team ethic. Never has, never will!

We are not talking off season here. Offseason has got nothing to do with the professionalism during the season. Guys like Didak mucked up during the season. These guys are paid as professional athletes. so GC are making a huge blew getting rid of Bennel? The Tigers getting rid of Connors? Stevie J pulled his head in and the cats were better for it.

Big difference having 5 or 6 beers playing poker with mates and being in a car that was firing shots out the window with crims isnt it ?

i don't agree with this.

People and values/culture first drive strong organisations and set the foundations of sustained success. It's how Geelong and hawthorn have been able to do it in the most recent times.

I'm happy for Buckley to stay until the end of 2017 to see how we are tracking. If we are playing good consistent footy and are featuring passed the first week of finals in happy for him to continue
Except the culture we had drove success and the one we moved to has provided no visible benefit and players have left resulting in us falling way so there is evidence of detrimental impact from the change.

Culture is important. That doesn't make what we did right for us, which was always my point from day 1.

Touch of Ricky Nixon starting to pop up in Connors lately. Bit hysterical and making dumb statements. Might be starting to think he is a star.
So we're expecting him to be caught on camera in his jocks, somewhere in Kim Duthie's apartment in the coming weeks?

Caught Paul Connors on radio and once again he stated what a great kid Nathan is and that he is a young man of great character. That being so it sounds like he will walk straight into the Saints leadership group and will most likely be a future captain.

I was happy to accept a second round pick for him but as we are losing a potential leader and club captain, I think a first rounder is now a minimum.

Of Course Connor's going to make Freeman look like a Superstar. He is not going to come out and call him a dud and say his Hammy's are Stuffed

Interesting that Connors saying Bucks rang him to clarify the comments about Freeman's issues and that they aren't off field behavior related hasn't been mentioned.

And after reading this board here I was thinking Nathan is Couz MKll, disappoint now :(

Two grand finals in a row doesn't = sustained success.

The only person really questioning his character was Mick39

Absolute tripe.

One only needs to look at this thread post Bucks' comments to see this.
The whole board immediately assumed they were drinking/partying/not taking his rehab seriously related when any sensible person could see Bucks could have been referring to completely different variety of issues.
