That's what I was trying to say!

I know but it just frustrates me that the libs keep trying to pretend the that it's delivered outside your door basically being fibre to the curb.

This is labor's plan its FTTC with the option of FTTP for those that agree to it. If you don't agree to take up the NBN they won't put in the drop cable, this is why early on certain......."commentators" tried to scare people saying they'd have to pay $1000 on a mandatory install fee......except the end user isn't paying for said install at all.

The liberals are being particularly dodgy callersng their plan FTTN.
usually an abbreviation of fibre to the neighbourhood.

Which brings the fibre to each and every street with easy local network or node servicing up to 200 people.

Search FTTN and this will be the explaintion you get.

But this isn't the liberals plan the liberals plan is only to connect to the large node, that will be located in existing telephone exchanges. The small nodes in each street won't have fibre connected to them at all.

This is why they called their plan Fibre to the node, it's done deliberately to confuse people.

They get away with it because some areas will get Fibre to their street mainly through existing fibre, or if they are in a business area the vast majority won't get anything other then a box.

People don't even realise just how ****ed up it will be.

The exchanges are already connected by fibre?

Laughable isn't it? "We already get 200mbps"

It is laughable. The video surely lacks context and comparability to the Australian context. The Coalition are not asking us to go backwards. They are asking whether the the public purse really have to go the whole hog (FTTH) or whether, in those cases where individuals want the highest standard of service it is better for a greater proportion of the cost to be borne by those indivduals.

Turning a debate about approriate sharing of costs into slogans like "fraudband" and stupid videos that won't even reach let alone be liked by those who are actually going to decide this election is pretty stupid in my book.

Who is in charge of their digital campaigning, is it Marcus Rudd?

S. Pete

I didn't say that. But if you're comparing our infrastructure with another nation's, it's worth looking at other factors as to why we might be lagging.

Don't try and bring complexities to the issue - just laugh at the pointless video and vote for Marcus' dad!!

S. Pete

With due respect this thread is littered with "complexities" as to why FTTP is needed and why the FTTN plan is a waste of money from a technical, economic and return on investment standpoint.

Comparing with another country is irrelevant unless you are comparing as to why Australia will be uncompetitive in this area.

The same is trying to completely define a economic return around the Internet which is merely in its infancy both in the platform itself and its delivery and the content itself!

Always needs restating that the coalition plan is the same as alps for 17% of premises

Im betting that portion goes up significantly as reality dawns

The Wireless and Satellite are the same this is only 7%. I'm guessing the other 10% is Greenfields over 100 premises?

No taxpayers are.

In 2016 when Turnbull's network is completed :)rolleyes:), you will probably have to pay to get the fibre at least 500m to your house. It will be way more than $1,000!

Shameful stuff. Having to pay for goods and service. Next thing Turnbull will be sending children up chimneys. Bloody heartless Tories.

I still don't know why you care meds other than cheer leading for your Libs as usual.

Labors NBN is a better investment than Liberals. Prove it isn't.

You won't because you know nothing about the technology and are a simple finance type. Since your type ****ed up with the GFC and didn't predict any of the problems and are regularly incorrect with your forecasts I will take your opinion and foresight with a grain of salt.

It would be a waste of my time to even address your post as it has been addressed countless times through this thread.

If you read what I wrote you would know I think the Libs plan is ridiculous.

This is a complete waste of tens of billions of $, no better than VFT (just has better lobbyist peddling their propaganda in the media)

The technology is largely irrelevant. It will produce stuff all economic benefit. Those that will benefit ie business don't need the government to intervene the market will solve.

Faster film downloads. Yep, that is a key productivity enhancement for Australia.

Just more ignorant Gen Y I want a free lunch moaning.

Who gave everyone the tech wreck around 2000? Some people never learn from the BS that tech sorts continually sprout.

May as well have Jodee Rich as CEO of the NBN

http://delimiter.com.au/2013/08/27/...nbull-believes-telstra-will-give-govt-copper/

Shadow Communications Minister Malcolm Turnbull said yesterday that he believed Telstra would give a Coalition Federal Government its copper network for nothing under its existing contract with NBN Co, casting skepticism on critics of the plan who believe the telco could charge billions for the infrastructure.

Under the current $11 billion arrangement between the Labor Federal Government, the National Broadband Network Company and Telstra, the telco has committed to giving NBN Co access to its ducts, pits and pipes infrastructure, so that NBN Co can lay fibre cable alongside Telstra’s current copper cable. The telco has not committed to selling NBN Co its copper cable, nor has it committed to selling its duct infrastructure, but it has committed to transferring its customers onto the NBN as the new network is laid out.

Good luck with that Malcolm. Perhaps you blokes should've have sold off Telstra.

Neither is particularly an investment. The Libs have been out of office for a while and feel the need to respond to Labor bullshit to get the Gen Y "other people pay" vote.

I'm still waiting for your reply to my post that internet penetration is beneficial for a country but there's no evidence that faster broadband is a worthwhile investment.

Huh? It is completely replacing our existing communications infrastructure! With far better, adaptable technology. That is an investment.

Since everyone will benefit it is worthwhile government project.

The mere fact you say the benefit being it is faster shows your lack of depth. Yet again you continue to miss the point. It is bandwidth, multiple communications and uses over the one line without adversely effecting the other. High upload bandwidth, low error rates carries over long distances and connects the country ubiguitously. Will extend small business an affordable connection and will allow business and consumers connect in a way that is currently not possible. This will cause the developments of new products and services to be provided over this included health and education.

The Internet is in its infancy yet already plays a huge role in our lives. To look at Fibre as being Internet itself is very short sighted. Fibre will allow the interconnectedness extend past the user to all the technology in our lives.

There are a lot of benefits there, and I don't remember your post. Go and look at abs statistics for data growth, it is staggering.

Private enterprise will never give us a network like this.

As for those Gen Ys, well they will be on this planet paying for it longer than you, and should get a say regardless of your ridiculous throw away lines and with questions for others but little substance of your own.
