Anyone do it, and how'd you do?
34 for myself, some of those questions were bloody hard and just plain stupid.
Who on Earth wrote the rule that you can put your high beams on before going to overtake another car?

37.

Not bad considering I currently do not have a valid driver's licence in this hemisphere.

Actually, that did screw me up once or twice. I'm pretty sure the North American rule for lane occupation is to drive in the middle of the lane, rather than close to the side.

Some of those questions were really badly written and conceivably had more than one right answer.

Agree SB. I got 42, but there were a coupe of questions i had no idea about because I either hadn't heard the term (Shared zone anyone?!) or because what i got taught during my learner year was different to the answer they gave (such as lane occupation - I got taught middle of the lane). Given that this is only my 4th year of driving though, I figure i did pretty well. Beat both my folks convincingly.

We are still going through the answers, and we've done question 10. It's all bull **** mate.

How hot was that P plater bird who was talking about the mums who drive 4WD's?

I'll ask her a question any time.

I got 29, which isn't bad considering that I classify myself as a professional "back-seat driver". Which means that I've never driven a car or held a license, in any state or in any country.

Would you believe that I outscored Jen?

But all in all, it's a promising start, seeing that I'm setting a goal to get my L's and P's very soon... not bad for a 38-year-old import, eh? ;)

Some of the questions, I felt, were out from left field, but a lot of the stuff was just plain common sense.

But I'll agree with Stealth-- a few of those questions had more than one right answer when interpreted differently.

She was nice eh? I'll drive her anywhere she wants, and so hard as well!

I got a 39.

And I thought to myself, if the "experts" think the high beam rule was stupid, then why put it on the test? And that stop sign with the traffic lights on it? Eddie said that it was a Sydney sign, and did it surprise you that NSW got the highest average? Hmmph.

But other than those two I can't really complain. The parking rules threw me a little, but that's because I'm not very good at remembering things like tthat (And I'm very bad at parking.)

All very good points, but I would still drive that P Plater girl home.

Some really stupid questions, especially the ones which were purely about maths. e.g. converting km/h to m/s. How the hell is this meant to test my driving knowledge?

What a dreadful nights television, even the Lesbians were dull last night.

I got 32, but unfortunately my wife got the same. I was hoping to towel her up comprehensively.

Couldn't agree more about some of the questions. The stop sign with the traffic light's, the high beam, the fire hydrant sign and the metre's per second questions had no place on that test.

Also the questions regarding the distances you can park from certain areas should be answered "If you can get away with it, park anywhere."

The stop sign with the traffic lights is quite common here in Sydney, but as they explained its not so common elsewhere, so it was a unfair question to ask.

That high beam question was just plain stupid. Maybe the question makers put it in there to highlight to the lawmakers the stupidity of that particular rule.

Maybe they should have asked some tram rule questions. That would have stuffed up all the other state's averages!

As for the high beams, the guy who wrote the question took the rule totally out of context, asking a misleading question. This is what the rule actually says:

Road Rule 218: Using Headlights on High-Beam

(1) The driver of a vehicle must not use the vehicle's headlights on high-beam, or allow the vehicle's headlights to be used on high-beam, if the driver is driving-

(a) less than 200 metres behind a vehicle travelling in the same direction as the driver; or
(b) less than 200 metres from an oncoming vehicle.

Penalty: 3 Penalty Units ($300)

(2) However, if the driver is overtaking a vehicle, the driver may briefly switch the headlights from low-beam to high-beam immediately before the driver begins to overtake the vehicle.

One of the choices was that you were allowed to have your high-beams 100 metres from an oncoming vehicle. Technically, it was wrong, but the answer was misleading, as you can see above, as you can put your high-beams on 200 metres from an vehicle in front.

The rule is quite logically written, just some dickwit asked a stupid question.

Bob

I think this is what the rule is getting at:

If you're overtaking, there shouldn't be an oncoming car within 200 metres.

All it's saying is that you can put your headlights on immediately before moving into the opposite lane, without penalty.

The question and answers made it sound like that was the ONLY use for high-beams, which of course, is wrong.
