Alright I was having a look at salaries of players, and its amazing how much they differentiate.

Phoenix, for example, Is a team I don't understand. How does Robin Lopez and Goran Dragic, earn around the same much as Grant Hill (1.7 million). And how do they earn double Louis Amundson and Matt Barnes (800k).

AND WHAT THE **** IS SHAQ DOING EARNING 21 MILLION DOLLARS A YEAR FOR BEING A PUSSY AND MISSING 15% OF THE GAMES.

Hopefully next year is his last, what is he doing earning that much when nash is earning just over half that. Imagine if shaq and amare are both gone in 2010, leaving nearly 40 million in cap space. all that and nash isn't a certainty.

is this more common than i think??

You do not seem to be familiar with the concept of contracts which players have signed at some stage prior to this immediate moment, nor guaranteed rookie contracts. I suggest some research into these topics to answer your questions.

Check out the biggest waste of money for the 2008-09 season:

2008-09 salaries
1. Jermaine O’Neal $21,352,500 - That is a lot of money to be paying for one leg.
2. Stephon Marbury $20,800,000 - Looks like he is off to Greece.

3. Steve Francis $17,180,000 - Did not even know he was still on the books.
4. Raef LaFrentz $17,180,000 - Really? Wow. Portland likes to pay guys not to play.
5. Gilbert Arenas $14,653,466 - We wish we got that kind of cash to blog.

6. Ben Wallace $14,500,000 - That is not even a mill per point.
7. Larry Hughes $12,827,676 - Money well spent.
8. Eddy Curry $9,723,983 - That will do wonders at White Castle.
9. Darius Miles $9,000,000 -That will teach you to pay on potential.
10. Cuttino Mobley $8,925,000 - Did he not retire?
11. Antoine Walker $8,854,475 - He is shimmy-shaking all the way to the bank.

12. Juwan Howard $7,375,500 - He must be waiting for the call to TV like Webber and Rose.
13. Eric Snow $7,310,000 - Reason to be smiling on NBA TV.
14. Darko Milicic $7,000,000 - Darko scammed the NBA, nice work
15. Adonal Foyle $6,800,000 - Nice way to head into retirement.
16. Jerome James $6,200,000 - The biggest waste of cash there is. Obama should hit this salary first.

17. Shareef Abdur-Rahim $6,200,000 - No matter how you spell it, he is making a lot for nothing.
18. Adam Morrison $4,159,200 - Should be paying the NBA just to remain in the league.

It's pretty common. Who signed Jason Collins to make 6 mil this year? Brian Cardinal? Marko Jaric?

Guys like Amundsen and Lopez will be on rookie scale contracts, which are dtermined by their first round draft order (Amundsen first round?). The rest is just good old supply and demand.

Unfortunately most clubs can't resist signing players on for up to 5 years. They meet value in years 1 and 2 and then as the salaries are escalating many of those not in the top tier of players are deteriorating. Shaq's deal (which wasn't overblown when he was winning titles), was likely signed in Los Angeles.

The first round rookies have guaranteed contracts af fixed rates for their positions, there's not negotiation.

2nd rounders have fixed prices if signed as well.

G Hill signed for the vets min, something old guys do when they have enough cash.

Shaq was signed when he was being more monster like. you sign a long term deal too, for his output in his semi prime.

Back ends of some deals are scary.

Long 6 year MAX deals that are back weighted will end up massive.

LeBrons next deal will be worth close to 30 Mil in the last year of it.

Haterade you missed Michael Redd and Gadzuric. Redd is being paid around $15million to shoot .200 in 4th quarters or was and Gadz is the worse contract in the league around $6 million.

I see your Dan Gadzuric and raise you Jason Collins.

$6.2mil and a PER < 2.
