Since this board seems to be DEAD lately, I thought I would post about the playoffs

Well in the Western Conference:

Sacramento and Dallas will play in the next round
Los Angeles has won their series and will play the winner of the San Antonio - Seattle series in which the Spurs lead 2 games to 1

While in the Eastern Conference

New Jersey are 2 games to 1 in front of Indiana
Detroit and Toronto are 2 games all
Boston are 2 games to 1 in front of Philly
and Charlotte are 2 games to 1 in front of Orlando

I will do another update next week!

Keeping in mind, the 5 game series changes to a 7 games series from the second round onwards!

Games 1 and 2 - Higher ranked teams court
Games 3 and 4 - Lower ranked teams court
Game 5 - Higher ranked teams court *
Game 6 - Lower ranked teams court *
Game 7 - Higher ranked teams court *

I think the Spurs will get through will no struggle against the Sonics. The game I am most looking forward to is the Lakers and Spurs battle. This is going to be a titanic battle, and I think we might go to a 6th or 7th game here. Both teams have a similar type of game, and are both very hard to beat at home. This is a replay of last years western final.

I think Indiana will push the Nets into a 5th game, however I can't see them beating the Nets in game 5 away. The Nets will be out to win it it 5 games. The Hornets and Magic could still go either way. Any team could beat eachother home or away, as Charlotte are not known to have the best home record, but play some good basketball away from home. I think both Mashburn and Davis are going to play in tomorrows game 4, so I would probably say the Hornets could wrap it up tomorrow, however if it goes to a game 5, it could still go either way, but I might have to give the Magic the upper-hand if it goes to a 5th game!

I tipped the Raptors to beat the Pistons in 5 games on the boards 1 or 2 weeks ago. This is going to be a hard game to pick, but I think I might change my mind and say that the Pistons will beat the Raptors in double over-time :D

I agree the Lakers/Spurs series does look good, but its all hype, the Lakers should sweep San Antonio in 4, before defeating the Kings in 6.
San Antonio will be fired up after last years debarcle, but they have been talking up revenge the whole season, and I think that is pretty stupid. They will have done nothing but fire up the Lakers, and you don't want to get Shaq and Kobe angry because they will tear you apart.

Los Angeles Lakers are finally going to get what they deserve. A Three-Peat.

The Lakers get an easy ride. The only two teams capable of beating them are Dallas and Sacramento and they will only need to beat one of them.

The Spurs are easy pickings, the Lakers embarrassed them last year and i think they will do the same this year. Spurs do have a better outside shooter in Steve Smith, if he has a great series then the Spurs will push them, if not. Lakers in 5.

Dallas Sacramento should be a BLINDER! I wouldnt expect anything else than a mammoth 7 game series. Should be a titanic struggle and if the Mavs can contain Webber we could see a minor upset.

In the East its still anyones conference. Hope the Magic can get past the Hornets but T-Mac will have to play really big to get them past the first round. Expect the Nets to go through and game 5 in the Detroit-Raptors series should be good. Pistons by 15 points. Philly should limp out of the playoffs against a very good Boston side.

Wow! 50% of the first round matches went to a 5th game!
I think the Nets, Pistons, Celtics and Spurs will win game 5 though. The best macth-ups for the second round will be the Lakers and Spurs, and Pistons and Celtics!

Yeah some tough game 5's...if Tim Duncan doesnt play game 5 then expect the Lakers to go through to the Western Conference Finals in a sweep against the Sonics. A.I. will need to have a huge game to carry Philly past the Celtics in Boston. Pistons and Nets should be too strong for the Raptors and Pacers. Tell ya what though if Indy, Toronto and Philly get up...it will throw the East into shambles.

Correct ... No-one wouldve picked that the 6th, 7th and 8th seeds would go to the second round - (not saying they will)

But there is 5:35 to go in the 3rd at New Jersey, and its 66 - 66!
New Jersey has just called a time-out, and Nick Van Houn is going crazy, he has 22 pts to date!

I dont think Philly will get past the Celtics though, thats a very hard task ... but who knows?

Stike me flammin'
This is unreal
Miller just pulled up a shot with 1 second to go from the three point ark to force it into over-time!
Being a Hornets fan, I was saying to myself I dont care who wins, I just want this game to go to over-time! :)
At the end of the 4th period its 96-96

New Jersey 120 - Indiana 109 after 2nd OT. Lucky but Kidd stood tall when required.

I am a little concerned with how New Jersey are playing at the moment. There mid season form appears to have deserted them a bit and I expect Bryon will be really worried because they now come up against a very good and in form Charlotte side. I'd love to see New Jersey make the NBA finals and even win it (if the Lakers are not their opponents), but I now think they will struggle to get past the Hornets.

What are the chances of the Hornets winning the Championship in their last season in Charlotte??

I fancied our chances last year better!
At this stage last year we were cruising!
We had 7 wins in a row, with a clean sweep of the Heat, beating them by 26, 26 and 15 points respectively. We then faced the rampaging Bucks, and they quickly took a 2-0 lead on us. But the Hornets stood tall winning the next 3 games to take a 3-2 lead. At this stage I really liked our chances of beaing the Eastern Champs, because the 76ers were struggling against the Raptors, and I didnt really give the Bucks a chance of beating us. But I was wrong and the Bucks killed us in games 6 and 7.

This time round, we play another hard side in the Nets!
I really can't see us getting past the Nets, I think they will beat us in 6 games. If the Hornets are to win this series, I think they need atleast 15,000 at each of their home games, but I dont think it will come near that, around 12,500 will be the average crowd they will get in this series!

The Nets are far too classy, and came up against an informed Pacers in the first round of the play-offs. I think the Nets will win game 1, and the Hornets will win game 2, leveling the series at 1-1. I then think the Hornets will take a 2-1 lead, but the Nets will win the next 3 games, taking care of us 4-2!

wow... what a game... ~
very mvp performance from kidd..
and how about r.miller... landing shots twice, and forced overtime periods... phwoar...

charlotte match up well... dominating, clutch scoring & rebounding PG... along with alot of big bodies... baron davis almost averaged a triple double in the last series... i wonder if the Mash will be ready for the first game of the series...

Jamal is still feeling some dizziness within him ...
Jamal and Baron in the same side really does spark, and had Jamal played out the whole year, I think the Hornets wouldve won atleast 8 more games than they did. A true indication of how Charlotte will perform is their form, 5 of their last 6 games have been wins, their lose being in Over-time.

But New Jersey are the kind of fast-break team ... Its really annoying playing a team who can have a quick rebound, pass the ball up the court and score within a matter of seconds.
The game is going to be conntested and won in the 'air'! Rebounding will play a major factor in this game, and there are a number of match-ups I am really looking forward too!

Davis V Kidd
Wesley V Kittles
Brown V Van Hourn

Should be interestng, I think it will be close!
Carn Hornets!!!

Jordan aside...do playoff clutch shooters get any bigger than Reggie Miller. He is an absolute superstar and a pity that he will be added to the list of great players that never got a ring.

Nets v Hornets should be a good series, Nets really should win it, if they find there early to mid season form they could sweep but if they keep playing the way they are now then i can see the Hornets giving them trouble.

The Raptors, Pistons game was also a good one. Glad to see the Pistons get up. Should make a good second round matchup with either Boston or Philly, most likely Boston.

That three point shot at the end of regulation is probably the arsiest shot in history. Unbelievable.
