Any thoughts on what this is?

Some of the speculation and ideas I've thought of or heard of:
-NBA preseason game in AUS
-NBA team in the NBL preseason comp
-NBA team vs NBL team or NBL all stars
-NBL representative side in the NBA Summer League next year
-NBA Australian stars vs NBL All Stars exhibition game
-Exhibition game involving teams made up of both Australian NBA players and NBL players

No one seems to know for sure though, will be interesting to see what it actually is tomorrow

They're going to be announcing that Melbourne will travel to the US to play OKC Thunder during October in between United's first and second NBL games.

Also 2 other teams will be doing a similar trip to the US. I'm guessing its likely Perth and Sydney, although it could be Brisbane since they have the same owner as Melbourne, who is also the NBL owner.

How the eff is that ethical or allowable??

Larry Kestelman was a co-owner of Melbourne before buying the NBL a couple of years ago, Bullets are currently without an owner and 'League owned' so he technically owns them too. I don't think its too bad, doesn't seem to lead to a huge amount of bias or anything, and LK has done a lot for the league the last few years and one of the only people willing to pour money into it lol.

Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane to play pre-season games in the USA against Oaklahoma, Phoenix and Utah.

Awesome step for the league. Pretty disappointed though the Wildcats aren't involved and Brisbane are. I feel the biggest and most successful club in Aus, who have won back to back championships, are currently favourites for the 3rd would be a better option than a team that's only been around a couple of years, finished last last season and are the favourites for the spoon this year. I can understand Kings/Melb being part of it and both should have great rosters this year, it is kind of funny though that we are sending over last years bottom 3 teams lol.

Positives of not being a part of it though is Wildcats can focus on their season, won't need to do a huge road trip, suffer jetlag, risk getting injuries etc.

I happened to switch my radio to SEN just as Andrew Gaze was talking about this earlier.

He said that it was originally going to be 1 team going over and each team was asked to a submit to tender. Sydney were selected from the tender.
After that had been done the NBA invited two more teams over and Perth was asked to go but as the game would be during the NBL season they declined as they didn't want the interruption.

Pretty good for the league. Hopefully a few D-league guys see this and start thinking they wont fall off the radar if they play in Australia and come down.

Or if the NBL teams do ok, some yanks might figure playing in Australia isn't a bad development spot.

Why are Perth Wildcats, the two-time reigning champions, not involved? Why are three teams who failed to make the latest NBL post-season representing Australia in these most prestigious "friendlies"?

NBL executive chairman and owner Larry Kestelman told ESPN at the announcement that "it was important to cover off the key markets with the biggest populations and biggest followings".

"Perth was someone as champions we wanted to see going ... it proved a little bit hard with their season and schedule."

Wildcats officials also told ESPN the opportunity for the team to play an NBA pre-season game in the U.S. was "informally raised" by the league "earlier this year".

"However, given the timing of the games and the unknown financial cost, the decision was made that it wasn't in the best interest of the organisation," the Wildcats told ESPN in an email.

"The Wildcats are firmly focused on the 2017-18 NBL campaign, and preparation for every regular season home game is of the utmost importance."

Perth coach Trevor Gleeson, meanwhile, told ESPN that he was disappointed the Wildcats were not involved.

"It would have been nice to send the championship team over like what happened back in 1995 -- Perth Wildcats played the Houston Rocketsin London -- you had to win the championship to qualify for that event."

Great signing if true from Melbourne point of view, but interesting about where this leaves the reported offer for Casper Ware. Adnam isn't good enough currently to be starting PG.

As a cashed up club who are often rumoured to be interested in a lot of players, Randle's name comes up as well as a player of interest for MU. Would be the most hated team in the league with both Randle and Prather in the lineup...

Yeah the starting PG spot will be interesting. Goulding is on around 400k, Anderson is apparently 500k-600k, and I'm guessing Prather is on around 300-350k. Those 3 alone probably put them over the salary cap, throw in the rest of their team and they're possibly close to $800-1mil over the cap already.

Randle apparently wanted $600-800k and Ware I'm guessing would want similar to Prather. I wonder if they go all in and absolutely blow out the cap to buy a championship, or if they leave the side as is and keep an import spot up their sleeve, or if they sign a budget Import PG.

Seems that Prather wanted more money than the Wildcats were willing to offer, so he went to Melbourne.

Like I said, if it's a choice between Cotton and Prather then the Wildcats made the right call here IMO.

Has that been reported?

I assumed Prather wanted Euro money, didn't get it and then couldn't return to Perth because we finalised the roster already.

Seems pretty definite.

EDIT: Prather is awesome but his lack of range can hurt a bit. Still, I'm glad he's staying in the NBL. Perth V Melbourne has some intrigue now :thumbsu:

W/Cats. The owner is notorious in the league for absolute low balling offers and having a fair amount of supporting cast on crumbs. Wagstaff/Redhege/Hire/Martin could get a lot more money going to different clubs. Talking to Redhage the other day (Redbacks tonight any perth peeps!) he got offers to play elsewhere in the NBL, Europe as well, dude left some serious money on the table the last 4-5 years playing for Perth, Consider why we don't have a great track record of retaining international players.

Plus to get Bryce Cotton who's NBA end of bench quality is huge for us. He was absolutely the difference between us and the 36er's and the best player in the NBL easily

I know nothing of it, But i see that Prather was probably way low-balled considering we knew we could win without him.
