How the eff is that ethical or allowable??Also 2 other teams will be doing a similar trip to the US. I'm guessing its likely Perth and Sydney, although it could be Brisbane since they have the same owner as Melbourne, who is also the NBL owner.

Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane to play pre-season games in the USA against Oaklahoma, Phoenix and Utah.

Awesome step for the league. Pretty disappointed though the Wildcats aren't involved and Brisbane are. I feel the biggest and most successful club in Aus, who have won back to back championships, are currently favourites for the 3rd would be a better option than a team that's only been around a couple of years, finished last last season and are the favourites for the spoon this year. I can understand Kings/Melb being part of it and both should have great rosters this year, it is kind of funny though that we are sending over last years bottom 3 teams lol.
Positives of not being a part of it though is Wildcats can focus on their season, won't need to do a huge road trip, suffer jetlag, risk getting injuries etc.

Why are Perth Wildcats, the two-time reigning champions, not involved? Why are three teams who failed to make the latest NBL post-season representing Australia in these most prestigious "friendlies"?
NBL executive chairman and owner Larry Kestelman told ESPN at the announcement that "it was important to cover off the key markets with the biggest populations and biggest followings".
"Perth was someone as champions we wanted to see going ... it proved a little bit hard with their season and schedule."
Wildcats officials also told ESPN the opportunity for the team to play an NBA pre-season game in the U.S. was "informally raised" by the league "earlier this year".
"However, given the timing of the games and the unknown financial cost, the decision was made that it wasn't in the best interest of the organisation," the Wildcats told ESPN in an email.
"The Wildcats are firmly focused on the 2017-18 NBL campaign, and preparation for every regular season home game is of the utmost importance."
Perth coach Trevor Gleeson, meanwhile, told ESPN that he was disappointed the Wildcats were not involved.
"It would have been nice to send the championship team over like what happened back in 1995 -- Perth Wildcats played the Houston Rocketsin London -- you had to win the championship to qualify for that event."
Ahh the old McDonalds Cup. Those were the days!"It would have been nice to send the championship team over like what happened back in 1995 -- Perth Wildcats played the Houston Rocketsin London -- you had to win the championship to qualify for that event."
Great signing if true from Melbourne point of view, but interesting about where this leaves the reported offer for Casper Ware. Adnam isn't good enough currently to be starting PG.
As a cashed up club who are often rumoured to be interested in a lot of players, Randle's name comes up as well as a player of interest for MU. Would be the most hated team in the league with both Randle and Prather in the lineup...
Seems that Prather wanted more money than the Wildcats were willing to offer, so he went to Melbourne.
Like I said, if it's a choice between Cotton and Prather then the Wildcats made the right call here IMO.
Has that been reported?
I assumed Prather wanted Euro money, didn't get it and then couldn't return to Perth because we finalised the roster already.
I'm actually a little disappointed there. Would much rather have been able to go with who we know works for us, as opposed to not.
