Player Watch Ned Long

I don’t mind it because his other strengths make up for it but his kicking action makes it more obvious where he’s going to kick it to and limits his ability to quickly find angles. It stands out for the wrong reason in a midfield made of Nick Pendles and Sidey. He knows though that his role to absorb the tackle and do a release handball when possible.

Not many inside mids that are Good Field Kicks consistently

He doesn’t hesitate or play like deer in the headlights. He shakes n’ bakes like a running back in American football to fight of the tackle, all the while looking where to dish of the handball to.

His soccer kicks off the ground actually travel some distance and he usually does connect with them. Some other pies players make me laugh a little and frustrate me lots when they go with the air swing trying to soccer kick the ball.

Ned has a good contested mark, he is strong. There’s a good video of his under 18s showing this.

Is a very dominant player, making it very easy for the others, similar to Taylor Adam’s in that regard.
His kicking though, don’t think I’ve ever seen a worse kick. Cox looking to hand off to somebody who can kick and chooses Long…I take Cox every day of the week in that situation!

Cox missed two sitters.

If Ned consistently plays well for the rest of the year, will we extend his contract at the end of the year? Obviously, he still needs to prove himself at the AFL level, but if he performs well for the rest of the year, will we extend his current contract at year's end to avoid the recruitment sharks from other clubs? Is a 4 year extension asking too much?

Can we extend for another two years at the end of the year? He is playing great footy at the moment, and if he keeps this up, I wouldn't mind another extension. I love his game, and he is becoming one of my favourite Pies players at the moment.

He'll be a delisted free agent whenever out of contract. I think his manager would probably want to milk that if he continues to really establish himself.
