Such a strange decision to effectively play him as CHF.

He must go back to the VFL. Either let him go back and find form as a midfielder, or give him 4-5 weeks as a forward in the VFL to prove he is capable of playing that role (which clearly doesn't suit his skillset).

To me he has one role and it is as that big bodied, inside mid. Right now, Anderson & Allan are ahead of him, so he needs to go back, like Ed did and play his way back in.

I'm not seeing the drama, as I don't see what options we've got and thought he had a couple of good involvements. I think there's a misunderstanding of his role, as I thought he was playing the Schultz medium forward role with Schultz playing Jamie's role well. If we want to use Schultz deep (which I hope we do) I don't see what options we have for half forward contest.

The Pod would be a better option - to either play Elliott role - at least he can mark the football and is a better kick. Based on his VFL he would apply a similar amount of pressure.

Then you have Anderson who does that role better.

Anderson has a lot of potential in the role and i think he'll spend time as a half forward, but think they'll also persist with Ned as well. It's not a lead mark role - they position too close to the ball for that - it's provide a contest, but a heap of it is turn back and head towards goal. It's Cam Rayner's role - not Logan Morris. I think Ned's alright at the turning and heading forward part and had a couple of good moments last night.

Ned Long isn't playing any role right now, he's just being hidden up forward just like Adams and Mitchell were.

He's playing half forward with a bit of ruck work. He got involved in our offence last night with 6 score involvements - including a couple of surprisingly good kicks. Those potting him for last night - are potting him for being Ned Long rather than his performance last night - it was a standard half forward game.

I agree but who do we have to replace him?. I'm a big fan of Pods, maybe he should be given a go to see how he goes
The issue is West, Buller, Membrey and McStay are all deep forward options but can't turn and get invloved heading back to goal like you need your half forwards to do. Can Pods do that?

He’s playing the don’t win the ball role that he used to play in the midfield and now in the forward line. It was scary when Frampton went in the ruck and we had Neddy at CHB 😱

Was the lead marking option for a lot of the night and took 0 contested marks and 0 marks on the lead…

Wasn’t even the tackling he’s supposed to be so good at last night, just 1 tackle for the evening and was our 2nd worst rated player on the ground, but at least Beau kicked a goal.

He’s flying when you listen to No Spin and co.
Careful because they’ll tell you to take your meds too with this “melt”

You nailed it though.
That’s exactly what he’s been doing for a long time now

And Long was also outmarked when playing forward when he was meant to be in a defensive role.

Must have been watching different games because he ended up being a long aerial target on numerous occasions at half forward, lined up against a bulldogs KPD several times and was soundly beaten. He effectively took West's position last week and Harrison took that Schulz role.

Perhaps one of the players we have drafted would be better suited to play that target role? West or Buller should have played in this game if he was going to play as an aerial target in the forward half. Coe and Pods should be considered as they acclimatise to game plan / structure.

I like Ned as an inside midfielder that gives high level contest and tackling but we shouldn't be testing him out on the fly at AFL level as a forward target when we have better options for that. Let him show he can that at VFL level first.

It’s not so much hate towards him, it’s more the fact he’s playing at CHF when it’s clear he’s not a forward.

If Pendles was playing CHF I’d be just as annoyed.

Long a victim of circumstance.
The problem with Ned is that, if he's not playing as a mid, there's not really another role for him, at least the way he is playing at the moment, because he's not a forward.
Ned kicked 2 behinds, and Banger kicked 2 goals.
It looks as if Ed has edged ahead of him for a mid role.
If we are experimenting with Ned, it's probably better done in the VFL.

Players play multiple positions. They don’t do it over night. POD is 1 game with the club. Coe same. The team doesn’t improve with more things broken.

No offence mate but try posting at the start of your trips, not when you're peaking.
