Any doctors on this forum, please provide your opinion on Judd's groin

In my humble opinion, if you cannot sprint 6 months after an operation, then the operation was not a success. That would mean that Judd still has issues with his groin. The alternatives could be:
a) it is a mental issue
b) it is a strength issue - i.e his groin muscle effectively needs to start from scratch to regain strength and this takes many months

A medical opinion would be greatly appreciated

My opinion is there is a mental issue somewhere, but it probably doesn't belong to Judd ;)

You don't need a medical opinion - all you gotta do is read anything Johnathan Brown or Aker or COUNTLESS others have written about this. Both those guys had the same op and have said he'll be fine after the usual amount of time has elapsed - another 2-3 months IIRC.

Yes, Aker only yesterday said on CH7 sports show, that he had had it done and it takes good 9mths from time of operation....Judd is too valuable to be rushed back into things.......why risk him being stuffed for good?.....

It's not being rushed back ..it's called acquiring match fitness ..every footballer coming back from a LTI needs to go through the same process .

FFS not another one.

See my comments directed your way, and anyone else who think that just because you've had the injury it makes you an expert and all injuries are the same.......... in the Aker thread.

Well, my real name is Doctor Dre and the first thing I learned in doctors school was to always listen to Akermanis

On behalf of BF I will reluctantly and begrudgingly put my hand up to personally check Juddy's groin and report back ;)

And I shall be her assistant....;)

And I'll put my hand up to look after Twigley whilst you're minding Juddy.

C4 can have Houla and take him out before this week's game. ;)

LOL

I actually spoke to Juddy about it on Sunday at the Nth v Richmond game as he was the host in the corporate box (my work purchased the box for the day through one of his business ventures G3 Events). He said that the groin is fine but is working through conditioning and strengthening of it e.g. pilates, working on his posture, the way he even stands. He said that it wont be a long term problem and he hopes that it should be right by the latter part of the season.

Hey all, just a quick message to let you all know my opinion on groins. I am a Sports Physio, avid Carlton supporter and team physio for a TAC cup team and have had numerous experiences with treating overuse groin problems.

AFL is a very unique sport, it involves fast, quick, dynamic movements that dramatically load the pelvic and groin regions. In order to suficiently deal with these loads one must have excellent strength around their lumbopelvic area, adequate flexibility around the hips and excellent core stability. Additionally external factors such as training loads and gradual progression of running exercises need to be thoroughly monitored. traditionally GPS devices are used at training sessions at AFL clubs to monitor training load and distances covered in a certain period of time to monitor such loads. Also many clubs use perceived exertional scales on the players, where they are constantly asked questions on their pain levels, mood and general well being.

I beleive that Judd was run into the ground last year by West Coast! He should have been rested to allow him to get right for the finals. However his groin were pushed to the point where he would have developed substantial osteitis pubus and hence would have had many degenerative changes occuring within his pubic symphysis (joint that joints the two sides of your pelvis at the front) also, he would have had significant bone oedema or swelling at the origin of the adductor tendons. These problems take some time to settle even after surgery.

An adductor release basically reduces the tension or force transmitted from the adductor through to its bone attachment. Due to the sustained nature of his condition and west coast playing him when he was clearly struggling would further delay his resolution after the operation. I agree that it will still take another 2-3 months prior to him returning to full steam due to the condition that he would have been in prior to coming to Carlton.

i hope all of this makes sense.

Cheers:thumbsu:
