need a modern basic video editor

this is so bad

windows movie maker 2.6 was fine. now i'm currently on windows 7 and the newest version of movie maker is utterly ****ing useless.

all i want to be able to do is have the most basic splitting tools for a video track AND an audio track. no special effects or fancy features needed. all it needs to be is modern so that it can read and export newish file types. (e.g. movie maker 2.6 can't work with the files i need it to, i've tried)

have scoured the internet and downloaded a bunch of free trials n shit but they all suck. can anyone help me out if they know of one? doesnt necessarily need to be free

Haven't tried it before, but Blender is open source (free) and amongst many other things has a video editing function

techsmith Camstasia Studio 8 is good and basic so much more noob friendly then a Adobe premier pro suite. i got it for free if you get what im saying (torrent)

Depends on how in depth your needs are.

The two i've used with good success are Corel Video Studio and Sony Vegas.

Corel is far easier to use, very user friendly. Vegas is harder to use but has a lot more options and features.
