Need advice please

Hi, i am a leaguie(go manly!) who is coming down to melbourne in august & i am hoping to catch my first game of afl live. sure i've watched many games on t.v. but i have been told repeatedly that i have to see a game live to appreciate the game fully.
i will be there for the sunday games in round 20 (carlton v st. kilda & geelong v essendon).
as i have no affiliation with any club who plays doesn't matter but i am leaning towards carlton v st. kilda as for now it appears as though it will be a more competitive game.
anybody care to offer their opinion?
also which ground is better to experience a game at - etihad or m.c.g.?
is it better to sit close to ground level or up a bit?
anything else to consider?
at the game can you get cold pies & warm beer like we do at brookvale oval?

Geelong vs. Essendon won't be a close game, so if you're after a closer game, I'd go the Carlton vs. St Kilda game.
