Need Help Desperately

hey people.

I guess ill start from the beginning.

A while ago i bought a computer from Harvey Norman, they ripped me off as i got no cd's for anything. I am not all that good with puters so i did not think i was getting ripped, i soon found out this. Anyway, after having problems with Spyware, i wiped my HDD. After i did this I HAVE NO SOUND AT ALL. My friend says this is a driver problem, ive tried searching the net for drivers but not knowing much i have com to no avail.
CAN ANYONE HELP ME
This is what i can tell you about my comp:
Diamond Audio Technology Speakers
Packard Bell Computer
iMedia C2120AWS (whatever the hell this is)
Intel Direct AGP(shared up to 11mb DVMT) (whatever the hell this is)
Intel Pentium 2 processor 1.2 ghz
20 gb HDD

I know this is not alot of info but its all i know about my comp. PLEASE CAN SOMEONE HELP ME. Can someone tell me what audio drivers i need to get some sound

now the problem is, i have no idea which sound card you have. Perhaps you could open your case and look for the sound card if its not onboard, otherwise you would be able to check it in your bios, by restarting the comp. and then pressing del key or something similar depending on your bios, then looking for something like Integrated Devices in the bios

Assume you are running XP.

Go to this site and choose the relevant i-series model.
There should be a silver sticker on the box somewhere which gives the i-series model letter.

Im also having the same problem with my printer, my comp does not detect it.

my operating system is Windows 2000

the printer is a canon bjc - 2000sp

do you know a good site ffor drivers so my comp can notice myy printer???

I tried downloading the relevant model audio drivers. I completed the download but when i try to install the drivers it comes up with a message during the setup:

"Driver not found! Please reboot the system and try again"

I try doing this but still it comes up with the same message, can someone help me?

Can you browse for it in the location you saved it to?

Usually with those Harvey Norman packages you get 1 CD that has everything on it.. you said you wiped your HDD...did you rerun setup from an install CD??

Assuming you do have one cd then the sound driver would be located on it somewhere you just have to find it. I would go into device manager(right click my computer - click properties & its under the hardware tab)It should be listing a media device that has no driver or a sound device of some kind. go into the properties for that device & reinstall driver. Have the CD in the drive already (still just assuming you have one) & either let it search the CD automatically or manual browse the CD for a sound folder.

If you don't have an install CD then go back to Harvey Norman & demand one. As far as i know they must supply a copy of the OS in some form, usually bundled on a CD with other software & drivers in the case of these packages.

i went back one time and they sazid they did give me the cd's and that i had lost them. i know for a fact that i didnt lose them.

But i bought the comuter a couple of years ago so to them they just dont care any more

I went to the device manager and the "multimedia Audio Controller" does not have any drivers. Neither does the "PCI device"

I imagine that the audio controller is my problem. but im stuck in what to do after the drivers i downloaded dont work

very tricky without CD. A couple of things to try.. when in device manager browse your HDD for the driver as mentioned earlier.
or go through the process of reinstalling driver from device manager & i think you get an option to search for a windows update... you will need to be online to do it & it will try & find one on the web... if it works buy a lotto ticket tonight also. Another thing to try would be go here http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com & let it scan your comp for available updates.. ya never know what this might find & fix.

1. For future reference - never ever buy Computer equipment from Harvey Norman. It is always overpriced, obsolete and service is non-existant.

2. Go to driverguide.com and login as member - Drivers, password - all. You may be able to find the drivers you need there.

i tried the windows update site, that didnt have the drivers. im now trying driver guide but it does not look good, mainly because i dont know what im looking for

Johnno.. that model has onboard sound so you need to find out what motherboard is inside & download a driver from driverguide for it. A search of the packard bell website for that models specs might be your best option.

Just had a quick look at the packard bell website & looks like the sound driver is availbale for download here.

thanks fritz but that is the driver i downloaded before. When i try and install this particular driver it says "Driver not found! please reboot the system and try again"

i reboot the system but it still comes up with the same message, i do not know what to do

This was on driverguide

"This is the driver for the really cheasy onboard sound card by SoundMAX. Soundmax Integrated Digital Audio Device is what Windows calls it. Just run the exe in a temp folder and then run the decompressed setup file. If it doesn't work, I suggest you buy a REAL mother board. Chow..."

But from that.. try downloading soundmax.exe from driverguide.. save the downloaded file to a new folder which you can easily locate. Dbl click the downloaded file & it might extract all the compressed files into your new folder, then go into device manager & right click on the sound driver you found earlier.. click properties.. choose to reinstall or update the driver then browse to your new folder & hopefully find the *.inf file it will be looking for.

If that don't work i am fresh out of ideas.... good luck Johnno!

I did something in the device manager and i it allowed me to update the drivers for the sound card. It then made me restart the computer. When i went back to ther device manager, it said the drivers were faulty, i then read the trouble shooter, and it said uninstall the device and try again.

I did this but.. (dont laugh) now i cannot remember what i did in the first place to get there so im back to square one.

Fritz, i then tried what you suggested but unfortunately it didnt work. Thanks for trying, i dont use my comp for music or games any more, just the net. So you dont have to try and find something for me to do now. Just if i am ever around a technician i will get them to try and fix it.

Thanks to everybody who helped, even though we came to no conclusion, it probably wasnt your ideas that were wrong, just my skills in this area of computing
