I assume you are talking about one of two things:
1. Coaching moves
2. Whether his job could be on the line

Therefore:
1. Some interesting moves. Playing Tippet more in the ruck than I thought he would. Also moved Bock to CHF at one point which was really surprising. And dont like how Danger started the game in the forwardline. He was a terrific ball winner and NEEDS to start in the middle at the start of games.

2. Its round 1, tough preseason, still missing a number of key players. He is safe, and so he should be. Where are you going to find another coach like him? They dont grow on trees. He will get the best out of this group. Remember, we started 2-5 (or 2-7 I forget) last year. The touch will come back, players will come back, we'll find our groove and talk of Craig being sacked will be out the window. The only talk about Craig being in trouble will be by Rucci who'll have nothing to talk about so he'll start speculating (like they've done with ablett going to GC). Im certain he will be safe this year.

Let me start by saying that I agree with you on Craig being safe this year.

However our coaching panel which Craig heads up failed on all of their stated objectives prior to the start of the season.

1. Devise a game plan to stop the opposition when they get a run on FAIL.

2. Improve the transition of the ball into our forward lines FAIL

3. Improve our share of clearances FAIL

4. Improve our usage of the ball from clearances FAIL

When our zone starts to strangle Collingwood, Malthouse abandons his gameplan and goes man to man which dismantles the zone, with Collingwood usually getting up to win after giving us a 5 to 6 goal start.

We just kept zoning fresh air while Freo players ran unchecked all over the ground.

Talking about clearances earlier, our centre bounce set-ups were a disgrace. Freo took the ball out alnost at will.

Dangerfield also was used far too sparingly at the centre bounces. He'd be at every one if I were the coach.

While Freo played with terrific intensity and desire, IMO Craig and crew had a very poor night in the coaching box.

It's only 1 game, but just as much as our players have to improve tremendously so does our coaching panel.

Poor game by all tonight.

My observation is that when other teams attack they seem to easily get players free in the forward 50. When we do we have to bust a gut to get a mark up there, because a defender is always adhered to our key forwards. This happened even before Craig was coach but its annoying to see it still.

The fault is probably with the line coach, but ultimately Craig should make sure we sort it out.

Craig does & should take full responsibility for what happens on the ground.

He has his good days & he has his bad days but last night he had a night to forget.

Could not work out the positioning of our on-ballers during the stoppages plus do we have anyone on the list who can kick more than 45 m ?

Totally agree with you here Macca. I was pretty frustrated with the coaching last night. Did not at any stage seem to have a plan to counteract the zone. Its not like its new. Could not see the point in playing Petrenko out of the goalsquare. We got totally smashed in the clearances, this was always going to be a risk with Sandilands. Weseemed to rock up without any sort of plan at all for winning a clearance. It felt like the coaches got to the game and said "geez whos that big bloke for fremantle".

Yep Noddy ...we do ..but Knights is injured.

Last night was woeful...just woeful.Imagine if Freo had kicked straight!

craig has had this team all over summer yet nothing has improved since Crows last afl game, if anything there is even less desire to win

trust me we must pereseverve with our zoning , it acheives nothing with teams playing like freo did, but hey im just a sports administrator really what would i know:rolleyes:

get back to the sports institute craig where you might actually be useful

Craig is 100 percent safe this year, but in my opinion this year will make or break him as coach. A bad year this year will mean that he will literally have to pull a rabbit out of the hat in 2011 to still be there in 2012.

I am not going to harp on too much because I said enough during the preseason about my opinion of going into 2010 with 5 players over 30. I am concerned though hearing Craig trying to pin our potential success this year on the improvement of 3 players who are turning 34 this year especially after what we saw last night.

Interesting times ahead.

This is the sort of feedback I was after, this thread was never about 'sacking' NC but discussing what went wrong and Im going to start or bump this thread throughout the season because sure we can say this player had a bad game etc but the coaches box is going to get a fair drilling this season too and so it should because ultimately ( Im going to stand by this) the first mistake was made at the selection table with Maric being left out, as macca said we got smashed at the clearances to the point of embarassment, Fremantle had a zone that worked, our kick ins after a freo behind were shocking because rather than take an opposition player the freo players fill up their defensive 50, we need a plan B because when our zone fails we are a mess and it has been proven in a number of games before last night. Thanks macca for your input:thumbsu:

I agree two elder players should have gone last year, sorry but Burton and Edwards should have retired, Mcleod this year and Doughty the year after but now we will carry these players through again and those about four this year, so really instead of a 'staggered' retirement phase they will all go in one hit.
