On a serious note, I am pleased to hear this from Craigy. We need to bring youngsters along over th enext 2-3 years in what is proving to be a bit of a transition period.

I expect Perrie will be given a first crack at CHF bit those of you claiming that Hentschel is not big enough to hold it have short memories. He played CHF on a few occasions last year and did very well. He has bulked up and is looking bigger than last year. Having said that I don't expect him to play CHF permanently this year but I do expect him to spend some time there.

For those thinking its the end of Biglands in the FP, I hate to burst your bubble, he will be played there if Craig has anything to do with it ;)

My thoughts exactly. As Ive said numerous times, NC will play players not where they have played before and bring in juniors at certain times.
While he will be striving for a finals finish, its clear he will and we have to play them soon.

Craigy has been talking a lot of schitt over the last few months. A while ago I recall him saying that Stevo will be played where it best suits the team regardless of his injury history, implying that he was definately going to play KP (I assumed CHF). THen he says that he likes a big body like Biglands in the FP to create miss matches. Now he says that Trentschel will be played at CHF and Stevo in a cameo role which leaves Biglands in no-mans-land.

I've no idea what he is going to do!

The only thing he hasn't said is that Perrie will play CHF. And thank Christ for that! :)

Isn't the unpredictability of it a refreshing change though...The proof will be when the real stuff starts but Craigy has done nothing in the off season to disappoint, in fact he has been a breath of fresh air.

As long as that breath of fresh air becomes a torrent of victories i'll be a very very contented old fart. :)

But your right this year does have a certain freshness & unpredictability about it & i can't wait for the season proper to begin.

I'm still of the opinion that at the moment Perrie is our best option for chf with Stevo in the pocket.

I was disappointed not to read naything about Ian Perrie, I know I called for his head last year but by the sounds of it he has worked his ring off during the pre season
.

Don't worry BRG same with me, i honestly thought for a bloke who debuted in 1998 but still hadn't consolidated his spot shouldn't be persisted with, but after seeing that photo of him, he just looks scarey and should be given first crack at CHF.

Trentschell is a little undersized for CHF......and Sarge looks "born-again" and quite ominous on the track....so while I've been critical in the past - he certainly looks a different prospect this year

Let's hope so. :o

I remember a few threads last year about how Perrie is "in for a big year" and has shown "heaps on the track". ;)

What we must remember is that training is very, very different to match day. Perrie can train all he wants but he NEEDS to perform when it counts.

I for one hope that Perrie can perform this year. He doesn't have to do anything special, but needs to at least force a contest and bring that ball down so the likes of Edwards, McLeod, Reilly, etc can finish the job.

He 's got the body, he's got the athleticism. Now its time to him to develop the mind to focus and play well under pressure.

I hear what your saying mate but all we have to judge Perrie for this season is his training form, we have to just judge him on face value. Its a new year, new coach IMO everyone has to start with a fresh slate.

I think its not a question of can Perrie perform at the AFL level BUT can he perform consistently at AFL level.

Everyone knows he is capable of being a key ingridient in our team. Over the years he has shown that he CAN play against quality opposition. Who can forget his game against Lions at the GABBA in 2003 where he took Leppa and Michael to the cleaners as our only tall forward. Or his performances against Geelong and Melbourne in the same year where he made fools out of Scarlett and Neitz.

Perrie's best is VERY good, his worst is SHOCKING. He needs to find some consistency and I think he showed some good signs in the last 5 games last year. He showed some consistency and provided a target accross HF that made us play straighter. If training form is anything to go by Sarge is in for a good year. If he can repeat his form of 2003 I would be VERY happy and he would make us a better team.

I was just thinking about our possible spine for this season and if everyone is fit and firing we could have a pretty solid spine.

FF: Mark Stevens
CHF: Ian Perrie
C: Mark Ricciuto
CHB: Ken McGregor
FB: Ben Rutten

Thats not a bad spine and probably a better one than we had in 2002 when we made the prelim finals.

For those of us who can recall...Blight nominated his expected lineup at a media lunch 4 weeks before the season started...saying Chalmers would be his centre half forward...at that stage he'd told Caven he didn't have him in the side......isn't it a bit eeringly similar???

Craigy is following the same script..

Seems to me that Pext thinks MD is a club man. Please lord forgive him for having faith in his club and those chosen to represent it. ;)

I'm pretty sure you will survive such harsh critisism, MD.
