Been a discussion on here about the Thebby pub and now the Hilton pub etc. Has anyone been able to get away from the bar long enough to see if: a) there is still machinery on our new site, and b) if so, is it actually working? Thanks in advance from someone who lives beyond Gepps Cross (and for that matter, beyond Gawler).

oh wow, I didn't realise it was being knocked down.
Yeh no customers will do that.
Interesting that the Hilton hotel made them build a tunnel rather than a bridge through the South Rd-Bradman intersection so it didn't ruin their business, but the Thebby gets knocked down.
People in high places I guess...
Not sure if serious

Have you seen the design of the project - the tunnel essentially starts at the intersection of South Road & Ashwin Parade/West Thebarton Rd

They can't start it any further north due to the river and other existing infrastructure

I have seen it. I live very near by.
I also saw the original plans that had a bridge across Bradman and no tunnel.

7NEWS/Sky NEWS lite obviously really desperate for any story to fill an hour bulletin if showing vision of concrete pouring out and talking about an oval size and orientation (that’s already well known) is apparently an ‘exclusive’ 🙄
I'd rather they do daily updates but hey... that's me

Graeme Goodings and Silvers both spoke briefly at the brunch today, I asked Goodings a triple banger question and answers involved:

  • it will be licensed ultimately but playing this pretty quiet currently due to sensitivities
  • another MCG sized oval will be available and then built around 2030 after South Rd extensions etc are finished
  • have benchmarked our new facility to all AFL clubs and overseas clubs and we will be the benchmark in the AFL. AFL has confirmed that to us,

Silvers (I think it was) said it’s a selling point attracting players a nice new facility which makes perfect sense I suppose.

It's looking really good. The one the Hawks are building at Dingley is going to be the big one. Two full size grounds, one smaller one and a soccer pitch.
Their budget is around the same at 100mil.
Dingley, assuming I have details right, is a shit hole 30km from the city PAST Springvale. It’s like relocating us to Elizabeth North.

You would hope they have a good facility if building in a shit hole

When are we looking at moving in?

I used to play footy against Dingley back in the 1950s when I was a kid.

Nothing said that would indicate timings have changed from previously stated. Silvers actually said we are a few weeks ahead of schedule at this stage but that will likely evaporate at some point with inevitable issues that arise with big builds.

I don’t know what’s previously been stated.

Good that we are slightly ahead at the moment. It means we can absorb those delays that will happened without it affecting the completion date too much.

It's not possible to find such vacant land closer to the city in Melbourne. The price it would sell for housing would be off the charts.
The growth in Melbourne is off the charts.

20 mins from Brighton area where a lot of players live these days. Much shorter drive than Waverley and very convenient. Worked well so far in recruiting talent.

In a few years it will be totally surrounded by the suburbs and should become a great recruitment area for new supporters.
On top of that it's only 15 minutes from old Waverley.

Yeah. In a perfect world they would have moved back to somewhere like Glenferrie but that's just completely impossible these days. Hawks are capitalising on Saints leaving the south-east area and it should result in a lot of new supporters. Impressive HQ and the Thebby set up will be good too when it's all done.

Has anyone seen a street view mock up from South Road side? Are we looking for high profile or discreet?

I'm not sure of the level the club might want to self promote. Awesome location if they're looking to embrace a prominent profile.

Thoughts anyone?
